Despite the big push for DirectX 11 with the Radeon HD 5000 series, AMD's HD 4800 family still has something to say and because of that we (almost) have a new model on our hands, the Radeon HD 4860. The still unofficial Radeon features 800 Stream Processors and a 256-bit memory interface, a GPU clocked at 700 MHz, and 512MB or 1GB of GDDR5 memory @ 3000 MHz.

The Sapphire-made Radeon HD 4860 features a dual-slot cooler, has DirectX 10.1 and CrossFireX support, and includes DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Apparently the HD 4860 is already on sale in several Asian markets but there's no word on global availability.

That'd be a pretty awesome card overclocking wise if it were based on RV790. It's probably not, but it's nice to dream.

A pretty pointless card if you ask me due to the fact we have a 4830 4850 4870 4890  so where does an old tech 4860 fit in with today's market ?

Well, according to tomshardware a 4890 outperform a 5770, so why wouldn't a 4860 be better then a 4890? [Clicky]

XYZ0
X - Tech revision, higher = newer (DX11 in this case)
Y - Major performance number (higher = better)
Z - Minor performance number (higher = better)

5770 = higher X, lower Y and Z; newer tech but less power

It's 40nm. There's also a new 40nm 4830 variant.

Edit: Oh wait the mobility versions.

Edit: Moreover, the 40nm 4860 is a mobility card with 640 shaders (i.e. the 4770's core), I think this is a different card to that altogether.
