Whats the etching in the bottom for? So when i'm drunk i know i've finished?

As above, it aids the nucleation of bubbles to make the head last longer. I don't think they make much difference though, even though the glass looks smooth on the bottom is still actually quite rough when it comes down to it.

It works really well if the glass is dry. If it's your second and the bottom of the glass is wet then it doesn't really do much.
