Ginger Bells

Bullied over what? If you were bullied over X, and I started making fun of X and talking about how people with X have no soul and it's okay to make fun of X, would you just say "aha that's funny, guffaw guffaw guffaw"?

Being a nerd generally.

And yeah sure I like nerd jokes. Hell I even make them.:)

You where bullied and decided to suppress/reject/avoid what you where being bullied about.

Me I embraced it, I am nerdy and spend far too much time on Pc's, and as such make jokes about being a nerd/geek.

Self deprecating humour is all part of being British.

That and drinking copious amounts of tea.

Hint: if your answer is yes, you're lying.

Just because it's true for you doesn't mean we're all the same you know :)

OK, I think you might have me confused with someone else. I haven't posted in GD for a good while, and I've never egged either of you on as I don't now and never have found either of you funny in the slightest. Sorry to burst the bubble you've blown yourself there.

As I've said before on many occasions, jokes are all very well and good. If you're a standup comedian, it's fairly safe to say that you're making a joke about prejudices and stereotypes, and it's easy to get away with it - because there's no underlying message you're trying to preach (unless you're Jim Davidson). But some everyday guy just sitting at his keyboard making ignorant and (most importantly) not funny remarks about someone who might be different to them isn't funny unless you're widely perceived as someone who likes to have a harmless joke. See the difference there? One is either some unfunny little oik trying to make a joke (fine) and one is some hatemongering individual (not fine). With most people, I tend to try and assume that they're the former, because it makes life easier, but encouraging this kind of behaviour out of context isn't productive - hence my disapproving of the card.

Lastly, you have no basis to call me a hypocrite. What I expect you're doing is making up some circumstance in which calling me a hypocrite is appropriate and taking that as a given. You don't know anything about me (other than that I have ginger hair) so if you're going to start calling things, maybe you should check that you're actually making sense (though from what I've seen of you in this thread, it doesn't seem that you're frequently bothered about making all that much sense).

So how have we suddenly become "duchebags" only when you where on the reviving end of it?

surely you would have thought we where all along if you believed what you're preaching.

ah and you mocked the emo's pretty well, even going so far as to make an account on there for people to use yo directly mock them...

poh and how about you take you're own advice

When confronted about how this abuse of the emo's was wrong and uncalled for you responded with.

if you don't like it, don't look. you're only making yourself angry when you could just go away

I never said you should :confuised:

I simply said it was not unchangeable like skin colour which you claimed.

Putting it in quotes made me think I'd spelled it wrong.

Like I said, and you've quoted a post and completely ignored everything in there and focused on what I said about 4 posts ago. I'll reiterate for you - "ginger people smell of wee" (I know that wasn't you) is either esoterically funny (as in, you knew a ginger kid who used to wet themselves and it's funny in your friend circle) and isn't really a basis for a universally funny joke, or is an ignorant piece of crap. When my friends as me if they're not going to see me all summer because it's supposed to be a hot one, that's funny because it plays on the truth, not some traditionally accepted, inaccurate slur.

That's not to say that jokes like Azagoth's earlier aren't funny - I actually love that joke, because it takes the **** out of the acceptance that hating ginger people based on one thing, and I don't find that offensive.

Do you see the difference? There's definitely a substantial difference between making a joke that plays on a stereotype and not being derogatory in your delivery, and a "joke" that's solely crafted to be hurtful.

So, there you see it. I've gone to lengths to verbosely explain why I (and I'm sure a lot of people) find jokes of this nature funny. In a normal, real-life situation, what would happen is you would take my opinion and feelings into account, assume that I'll continue to read this thread, and adjust your tone/content accordingly. If you carry on being derogatory and trying to make hurtful comments, that is what makes you a douchebag. And this doesn't just go for threads that I find relevant to me - if you're not offending anyone who can hear you, then what you say is acceptable (to a certain extent), but as soon as you start to upset people and they make you aware of it, your subsequent actions determine the type of person you are.

Of course, if you're actually disgusted by someone because of their hair colour, and you don't care who you upset, then that probably does make you a douchebag.

skin colours changeable, you can bleach... how far do you go, you can get plastic surgery etc

What a load of politically correct bull****! Get a sense of ****ing humour!

Im sure goldilocks has a sense of humour, I have a sense of humour and I dont mind good friends of mine poking the odd bit of fun at my hair, in the same way black people will call each other ****** etc but when people just throw insults around its very annoying

Yeah that's like signing up for a forum purely to abuse the people because you don't like their life style choice :o

Now who do we know that;s done that ;)

We all got to grow up some day, dude. If it's not possible to ignore, then you have to do something about it.

Probably back then, in my days as a keyboard warrior, I'd have told you to naff off (in no uncertain terms), but now, if someone had come to me and said that offended them, I would apologise and remove it.

Well I've got nearly 2 years till I reach the age you were when mocking fat emo's so plenty of time :)

*edited ;)*

I think he made a perfectly valid point. A lot of people are happy to make discriminatory jokes but scream blue murder when the shoe is on the other foot.

Sic says he no longer makes such jokes and I'm not in a position to say otherwise but it is a valid point nonetheless.

It's got nothing to do with age - just what you see, what you're prepared to put up with, and how that relates to the rest of the world. I never said I've stopped making fun of people, but I do now pick my audiences. Life's too short for everyone to just go around upsetting people.

yes and im sure if there was a card sold by tescos that had a similar thing referencing fat people a lot of large people would kick off as well as a lot of normal sized people, as discrimination isnt a good thing for whatever reason
