rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

lol wut

surely theres 100s of places you can buy singles without DRM. i cant even remember the last time i bought DRMd music

Play doesn't use DRM and it's 320 Kbps.

Anyone else buy from play.com and get an email asking to complete a survey? I did and I got a £1 for my trouble!

yes but i live in belgium so it doesnt count....

Can you get over the ego of cowell.

cowell said:
X Factor judge Simon Cowell has criticised the internet campaign, calling it "stupid".

Prior to the final of the ITV talent show, he said: "I think the campaign's aimed directly at me."

Firstly he calls anyone not buying a terrible cover of hanna montana song "stupid" then he think they are really aiming the campaign at him, it's not a personal vendetta it's against freedom to choose. Win or lose at least people are getting to hear about a real band for a change which is a good thing.

excellent, i don't care about the charts but to have RATM as UK number one would be amazing.

It will be amazing to hear the radio in the morning: 'and now for the UKs Christmas number one.... Rage Against The Machine with Killing In The Name...... **** YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA <PLEASE GOD LET THIS HAPPEN!>

Just had an email from Amazon informing me that I have a £2 credit for purchasing a CD from there recently.
I doubt I'd use it any other way so have just bought 6 copies of Killing In The Name.

They would cut out that entire bit. :(

Buying multiple copies could be counter productive.

If lots of people do this the single could be disqualified.

It should just go on number of sales regardless of who buys them.
Anyway, I suspect Amazon has some mechanism preventing duplicate MP3 purchases as I've only actually got an email confirming one of them.

So, stats people, what can you throw at me?

Current sales for each?
Percentage of online sales last year?
Single sales in disc format 2008?

unfortunately i have no stats according to the newspapers RATM is number 1 at the moment but the xfactor rubbish releases his hard copy in shops tommorow and i worry that musically challenged philistines out-number us.

But my point is that you have to remember this is not about who has sold the most last year, this year or in any year. This is about sales for this week alone.

EDIT: and if you are really trying to up there sales make your multiple purchases from different outlets, i.e. Play, amazon, itunes etc..

Why on earth would it be disqualified? This isn't a 'vote for your favourite' contest it's just a ranking of record sales. Nobody cares if you buy it to listen to or to set on fire - a sale is a sale.

I looked into it a little and found this:

Source: The Official Charts Company.

Which was produced on the 23rd October.

So by guesstimation, I'd suggest 300k more CD single sales between that date and the end of this year.

Why does anyone care what's number one at Christmas? Anyone with half a brain already knows that RATM will be remembered and respected long after x-factor guy has had his 15 minutes.

Because it's already happened before...

Yes, but it's just a bit of fun. :)

It's not like a not-very-Christmassy track hasn't been no.1 before.

Remember Mad World? :p
