Deaths on Britain's Roads

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/uk/2009/crash/8414354.stm

"With 12% of deaths in the rain and 83% of deaths in fine weather that suggests that weather is not as big a factor as many think."

It seems BBC needs some further education in statistics. I guess they forgot to take into account the fact that it rains far less often that it doesn't so of course the actual number of deaths in the rain are going to be less.

Sorry to say its not complete, I know a girl was killed on the M6 southbound between Coventry and Rugby (I think) a few years ago yet it isn't on that map.

I wonder how many more are missing, could be much worse than is shown :(

Yes, it is not up to date. We have one of the most notorious roads in the country around here and it didn't show any accidents on it - If only that was realistic! :(

Everyone drives more cautiously in the wet, even if they're driving badly and crash, they're usually driving more slowly, so less likely to be a fatal accident..

Exactly.... This is how easy it is to get the wrong end, or mislead people with statistics!

Shocked by how many more males than females died on the roads, didn't expect it to be quite as huge.
Its thought that whilst women have more accidents, they tend to be at slower speeds, so are less likely again to be fatal.

there was an accident on the mainroad outside my flat yesterday. looked pretty nasty, fire, police, ambulance were there, cutting people out of cars n al lthat jazz...

somebody obviously saw me wondering around my flat butt nekid and was THAT horrified!

Definitely not complete, I know of a few fatal accidents in my area that don't seem to be there.

36 deaths in Grampian last year and wow, 94 in Strathclyde! :(

2006 was a bad year - 62.

You know it only shows 2008 unless you change the year bit below :p

*edit* nm :p

The decrease in the last 3-4 years is quite impressive, not sure what's caused it but something is clearly working :p

No accidents on my main road (A44), all dual carriageway with the barrier between each side of the road.....yet it's a 50mph zone instead of 70 for the majority of the way and they stake it out with speed vans constantly. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Where abouts in Brum was that?

8 year old girl just around the corner from my house, and an 11 year old boy further up the road. That was a bad year, I remember it well.

They all seem to be biker and pedestrian fatalities according to their data round here. An 80 and 5 year old woman died, one hit by a car the other hit by a lorry within a mile of each other. It is up to date for 2008 mind you, all the ones I know of are there (all bikers :()

My mate, who is a biker, got hit when some woman pulled out in front of him at a junction - he went straight into the side of her. He is OK, but the woman is saying it is his fault...
