That stupid button film I saw advertised got me thinking about this question.

If someone offered you 500k, no strings attached (other than you accepting the money would mean someone randomly in our country would die), would you do it?

You don't know who the person is going to be, they live in the UK and there's no set age limitation. So literally, anyone. Could be someone dying of cancer, could be a 6 year old boy enjoying his birthday, could be your dad, could be a murderer.

Let's also pretend that it's impossible for you to be tied to the death legally.

I'm not going to post a stance yet as I don't want to set a trend. I'd implore you to just hit quick reply with the first answer and explanation that comes to your head without being influenced by opinion in the thread too.

Id really want to... but my conscience wouldnt let me live with the decision. I know for a fact it would bug me for the rest of my life.

I saw the trailer and said I would have hit the button before he finished lol.

In reality I don't think I would, it would be on your mind for the rest of your life.

I saw that stupid button film at the weekend. The answer is no I would not allow someone to die for £500k, or any other amount of money for that matter.

Sadly the conclusion I have come to is that I will be in a minority.

Yes of course I would, because realistically someone will die randomly any way.

However, I assume that by not taking the £500k then that life would 100% be spared, in which case no, never.

It depends on the ramifications, are they anything like the movie (I watched it on Sunday.... W.....T.......F.....)

If there are no consequences, aside from the one random person dieing for each button press, I would press the button a few hundred times.

I'd take it.

The person offering this bizarre deal is doing the killing, not me.
But what if the button killed YOU!

I would probably not do it, not because of moral implications just because knowing my luck it would kill someone I knew.

How many people would this be offered to?

If it was only me then yes, but if loads of people were given the chance then people might know where I got the money from.

This is a question that can only be truly answered whilst in the situation.

It reminds me of a House episode in S5 where a guy is holding House and some people at gun point and the gunman threatens to shoot a teenage boy and a nurse says to shoot her instead because it's "moraly right", however as soon sa the gun points her way she panics and begs him not to shoot.

It's a matter of preasure, we can never really know what we would do until we are under preasure to do it, at which point morals go out the window and your desire for survival or personal gain take over, your brain goes into automatic and you don't really have a choice.

Guilt is the only really limiting factor, could you live with the idea of knowing that you caused the death of someone, old, young, ill, healthy, innocent or guilty, just for money?

sorry off topic: sky, im sitting here refreshing the page and ive noticed your sig changes each time. Damn thats cool! How do you do it??

I'd like to add if i knew which person would die and they were about to die anyway then yes i would do it, also if it would bring world peace or something of equal value. Those are the only exceptions really... unless someone was of course threatening to kill my own family and there was no other way out of it.
