And yet they probably have hundreds of people working below them getting paid a pittance. Those at the top deserve the millions they get simply because of how hard it is to get there.

Again, this is wrong. There are many CGI artists per film yet only one director and a handful of stars. Therefore its fine that they get disproportionately paid because they have a disproportionate amount of pressure of their shoulders. Its hardly a suprise that in-demand actors are paid loads because a lot of the time, the film's success depends on them so no-one's making any money if Tom Cruise or whoever doesn't sign up.

And it's easy to get into the pixar animation team, or join infinity ward's game development squad? I think not, lol.

A career in CGI or game development is a low-paid and ultimately extremely hard career to get into. You have to have real, raw talent AND massive technical application. You are born a handsome good actor or a good looking singer. This doesn't deserve you millions.

Pixar uses famous actors to sell films but this is a complete waste of money. The film UP from Pixar was HUGELY popular here in Belgium called là haut not in English but dubbed into french. I've asked friends who saw the french film if it had to be top french stars that do the dubbing 100% of them said no they would see the film anyway.

I would like to see a poll of who chooses to see animated movies with their kids purely on the voices of the actors involved?

I used to download everything.

Nowadays I buy all my games (I'd hate to work out how much I've spent on Steam :/), and look for open-source software alternatives :)

Well yes it probably is easier seeing as there are a lot more of them (and they're hardly eating breadcrumbs off the street, the Pixar guys are paid plenty). Its like wondering why cameramen aren't paid millions; its because they're ten-a-penny compared to movie stars.

Nonsense. Everyone has to work incredibly hard to make it as a successful singer or actor, even those coming up through the X-Factor have to put in the effort to actually last (i.e. Leona Lewis).

Not at all
a) some one had to buy the game to begin with
b) the game can only be with one person at a time, where a download can be with millions.

I mean the impact made buy the second buyer alone. It's a sale denied either way.

It could even be construed as worse in the sense that the second buyer was willing to pay a portion of the cost, whereas a downloader might never have paid anything.

Not really the scales are massively different and to get something 2nd hand IT HAS to of been bought. It also means the person who sold it has money o buy something else.

In the games industry second hand sales are certainly frowned upon, as demonstrated by the increasing trend to tie products to accounts that you can't/won't sell on.

Nah, that's the song of second-hand buyers trying to justify themselves. ;)

From working in Game, talking to the manager he said that about 90% of their profits come from second hand games since they get all of the money. He told me to try and sell the customers a second hand version of the game they wanted since even though the price is lower, they get all it, not just a percentage like from a new game. They get very little from selling a game brand new.

They had to by the game off people, so it's not all profit. but yes they will make a lot more. The reason they are so high, is there prices are silly. Most people will order online.

I probably have some old MP3's somewhere that arn't legit. Though I am in the odd position of having lost a lot of proper CD's and then having illegally downloaded the music. I figure that since I parted with the cash I can legittamately do it, but I would be in the craper with anyone official as I don't have the legit copies of the music anymore.

I don't have any illegal software on the Computer these days, having actually caved and even bought a legal copy of Windows.

I don't buy or download much any more, and I generally don't buy because nothing really inspires me much these days.

Not a big music fan and the last game I bought that was actually worth every penny was Civ II. Games I have bought recently are COD Modern Warfare, and GTA 4 which were both ok but not really worth the money.

Software (Office, Visual Studio, Photoshop etc) is just too bloody expensive to buy. So I either download or I don't use outside the office.
