Would you allow someone to die for 500k?

It would have to me a electronic / mechanical action triggered by the pressing of the button say the button set of a bomb.. they if you press the button you did kill the person...

It doesn't matter what kills them, pressing the button leads to the a persons death, if you don't pressed the button they don't die, if you do they do, making you responsible for their death and ergo guilty of murder.

It would have to to propose the concept or make someone aware of it in the first place.

Not seen the film, i thought some guy who controlled the force did it.

Anyway, if not a murderer that would at least make you an accomplice.

There was a thread recently on here discussing what you would do with £1 million, i think it came to the conclusion you couldnt even retire untill you hit a very late stage in your life. So yeah 500k is a drop in the ocean.

I'm 22 and I'm pretty sure I could make £1m stretch at least the next 40 years if I was careful enough and invested parts of it smartly! That coupled with a few k's of interest from the bank every year, if you carried on living a similar lifestyle to the one before the £1m (don't go and buy a house and a ferrari on the first day) then it could make the rest of your life a hell of a lot more comfortable, but obviously it's not enough to start a whole new flashy lifestyle

Sorry but that's just a load of balls.

1 mill at 3% interest is 30k per year.

Lots of people work up until retirement age without earning more than that. And those people would be paying for a mortgage and a pension etc.

I think not. Its not like 500k is a life altering amount of money.

However, I would imagine a utilitarian point of view where the 500k could be sent straight to African charities to provide clean water ro such like and that would be guaranteed to save more people than 1.

I like that one...

the person could meet the people would get the money from the charity, maybe some are soon to die of aids, some soon to starve and a few blind etc needing basic medical care...

then the choice is help these people and save several lives at the expence of one person..

It doesnt work like that, this is how i originally thought it would be untill i read that thread. I cant find it using the search feature, maybe someone else can link it.

I don't know anything about the film, just going by the thread.

Blowing someone up with a bomb for money would make you a plain old hitman!

Interesting the different ways in which people have justified it. I thought hard about this for 5 minutes and concluded that I don't think I could. Just that chance it's a little girl or something. No way. Couldn't do that.

No way. It doesn't matter that you didn't physically carry out the action that terminates their life. By pressing the button or saying yes you are causing that person to die whether they were "gonna die from Cancer soon anyway" or not. I am sure loads of people would say yes without even giving it a second thought but I think that human life is sacred. None of us have the right to take that away. *Gets off soap box* :D
