rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

The cold facts of the matter are these.

Those who partake in these talent contests lack the love of music and/or determination to succeed and make a name for themselves. Instead, they rely on a TV show that is pretty much a guaranteed money maker for the winner, only to wind up making Z-List celeb appearances in clubs and TV shows 12 months down the line. Again, with the exeption of Girls Aloud whose string of hits speak for themselves, but where is Gareth Gates, Michelle McManus, Chico, Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson etc. now?

They may have the voice to get through a televised TV show, which is ridiculous at times anyway given how far the 'Twins' got, but generally, they don't have what it takes to progress in the business.

Leona is looking like she may be the next to build on the starting steps, but we'll see.

it might be ahead now but its going to get trounced once the figures from shop sales start coming in, unfortunately

Even if it's annoyed Cowell and upset the apple cart who assume the X factor winner is guaranteed a Christmas number 1 I'm happy. ;) If it actually clinches the number 1 spot then that's a bonus.

if the x factor wins then its conclusive proof that its guaranteed the top spot despite any pitiful attempts by the internets.

I think that's partially crap, actually. X Factor is just a new platform for people to make a name for themselves yes, but I think it would be verging on ridiculous to say that they lack love for music or determination. I imagine it's incredibly difficult to be a pop-star by yourself without backing by a label, and of course having the beauty (this goes without saying). In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the 'wacky' Lady Gaga persona was just the brainchild of a corporate think tank that realised being weird and breaking the mould in the current pop climate, she would sell.

Once their 5 minutes of fame is up, with the X-factor rolling around next year, the corresponding labels are going to be dropping old artists like flies in the hope of promoting something more successful.

My wife says that one of the model designer reality shows in the US was to come up with outfits for Lady GAGA who was to be the next big thing. I'm quite sure her style is not 100% her own but image made up by suits to a certain extent. But there are very few bands in the last couple of decades who can exert control over image and music.

The shows aren't all bad though look at SuBo and Paul Potts.

Like I've said before what annoys me most is that for the last couple of years they can't even be bothered to write a song for the winner.
