Basically I hate it. I got a good comp and for example WMP will stop responding by clicking play, for some strange reason just a few minutes after stop playing it GTA SA will begin to load and windows will go into compatibilty mode and then just stop and then return to normal. GTA from then on after repeat reinstalls and truble shooting would not start. So I decided I would reinstall due to this and others, installing WinXP was difficult 5 times of trying and it repeatedly said 'NLTDR is missing' I finally got it right with a FAT (non quick) format - this worked so then when I tried to install Win 7 through windows it said it wasn;t compatble with a FAT format! So now with Win7 installed through DVD now it won't 'pick up' my sound card and can't find it trough devices search.

Basically due to all these things I hate windows and would buy a Mac now if I could play games on it!

What do people think? Any other haters? Any other stories?

i think windows is great. any problems i have had over the years have been down to a problem with hardware (faulty etc) or drivers

which imo is more likely your problem

Lol Windows is fine. Haven't had any major problems since XP SP3. Vista and Win 7 are going great. Had some little niggles, for example on Vista I found transfer speeds to be a bit slow. Apart from that everything is/has been going great (and that's on an overclocked rig). Not had 1 single crash, compatibility issue or things not responding.

Windows, when configured properly, is fine. My Vista desktop runs flawlessly; my XP laptop has gone 26 days since the last reboot.

That's just not normal Windows behaviour. Either your hardware is unstable, your drivers are unstable, or the system's just not set up properly. If you want something that 'just works', maybe you should buy a PC off the shelf - or a Mac.

Which sound card do you have? It seems to be causing you problems!

To give it some slack it was Win7 beta. Even so this is bad and this sort of thing never happened when i was using XP

Troll post :/ Windows 7 is awesome.

I built a new PC, put the disk in, installed, windows update updated all my drivers then it ran perfectly.

Sounds like you've got a good dose of user errors :)

I've got GTA IV on my rig and it runs OK but there were initial problems which were fixed by the service pack updates but that was yonks ago.

The NTLDR error message just means that you either has a floppy or USB flash stick inserted when booting or the BIOS wasn't set to boot the correct drive.

What I would do is unplug all other drives except the drive you want to install W7 on, ensure that it's set in the BIOS as the boot drive, boot up of the W7 DVD and do an install. After W7 has been installed then plug the other drives back in but before booting up check in the BIOS that the correct drive is set to boot.

For the sound card do a google for the model name/number and see if there are suitable W7 drivers, if non then try Vista drivers.

Your hating on Windows 7 because it wouldn't install on a FAT partition and your manufacturer hasn't bothered to produce drivers for their sound card? Oh dear :p

Buy a Mac. Buy a PS3. Don't post on a Windows forum if you're bitching about Windows as you'll get flamed. Simples.

I agree with these, and it's your own fault for formatting it in the FAT file format :p

I dislike Windows, but for none of the reasons you posted, on the other hand I find it a necessary evil; I need to play games to keep my (remaining) sanity.

In other words, PEBKAC

;)
