how long before we're all flying cars?

That quote will haunt you forever....

This is the VERY SAME thing people said about normal cars and even planes.

i dont think it will, the OP said "how long until we're ALL flying cars." How many joe bloggs public are popping off the the shops in learjets? It takes years of training to proficiently fly a plane, can you imagine your granny or whatever in control of a flying car? Most people dont have the attention span, reaction times or skill to fly. Which is why it will not happen.

Edit - Imagine your average pimply teenager trying to impress some ladies. Except when he flys his car too fast and attempts a barrel roll, he will crash into a childrens hospital, destroying it. Not just himself or another vehicle.

Edit 2 - Car makers have had over 100 years to perfect their product, however no car is 100% reliable. A breakdown in the sky means mavity takes over, and another childrens hospital gets destroyed.

Edit 3 - Oh wait, you're that troll from the console forums.

I mean having a 'flying car' parked in your drive and flying around the corner to Tesco, or to work every day instead of having a car. You'd never get people flying down the motorway or have 'flying cars' replacing normal cars.

I see - I misunderstood!

I'll get my coat...

The thought of Joe Public being unleashed in flying vehicles fills me with dread.

exactly - it will never ever happen, even when it become technologically easy.
anybody, terrorist, nutter, disguntled employee, could kill hundreds of people easily with essentially a flying bomb!

They are already here, they are called helcopters.

?? err bit of a strange comparison

someone also mentioned how aircraft are essentially flown by computers. i agree and understand this but would you get on a plane with the knowledge of there being no human presence at the controls? i sure as hell wouldn't

Not at all a flying car will be just like a helicopter or a jet plane. A noisy powerful machine that joe public will never own.

50+ we will have to go through automated ground cars first, then find a new propulsion system. Only then will cars take to the air.

Yes it would be far safer. But the cost of the infrastructure would be large. hence why we have to go through automated cars first. To first develop the tech but mainly to change peoples opinions

Never, we may have some form of automated airborne vehicle but I doubt there's any need for any form of human-controlled small passenger vehicle which would be economical or safe enough to become common like the car. Space flight may at some point be possible, but there's a heck of a lot in our way from lethal radiation to muscle wasting and of course the collosal amount of garbage that now orbits us thanks those vehicles we've already launched.

If we ever invent a shield like in Star Wars or Star Trek then hell yes - fit one to my house first please before letting some 20 year old tanked up on cheap booze loose in the sky. :D

However, before cars were popular, I sure people had a distinctly similar opinion as to yours. They didn't recognise the need or advantage of cars.

Opinions will change, once we've had computer-operate car systems on the ground we then might start too look skywards.
