GT5 demo December 17 !!!!!

For it not to be as good as Forza 3, so people can compare the 2 and justify their purchase of Forza 3, and also for the "I got/am getting a PS3 just for GT5" crew to have the same moan they have in previous GT5 threads.

Mission successful, it would seem :)

i think you are maknig that up to be honest. people expected a single track demo of the final product, or at least something closer to it - we didnt know what size the demo would be so asking people what they expect for 200mb is honestly irelevant.

Problem with this GT5 is that its been hyped so much, Forza 3 just came out with half the exposure of GT5 and when anything is hyped it has to deliver. Still should be a great game but every game has its faults.

GT5 is getting so much stick because its the last pending issue with the ps3. All other problems it had, have been solved but no full version of gt5 yet.

You know I love you dude....but you're talking right out of your poopyhole there!

I LOVE Forza, I'm as much of a Forza fanboy as Mr Lattte is a GT fanboy, but I also LOVE GT and want it to succeed, I must have pumped over 500 hours into each iteration of the GT series, aside from prologue, and as much as this demo left me feeling colder than Jack Frost in a freezer, I'll still get it, I love the series, i want it to do well, if the crowds are in slight 2D...I don't care!! If the cars, and tracks are the main graphical focus, that works for me, the thing thats making me dispise GT5: P and GT5: A is the abortion of a driving model, cars turning on their middle axis, its like handling for DiRT (1, not the good one!)

C'mon PD, sneak a ninja into Turn 10 offices and steal the Physics engine, then we're onto a winner!

Excuse me lets get this RIGHT for once.

IM NOT A FANBOY OF ANY SINGLE RACING GAME!
I will criticise points of any racing game I feel are worth criticisim and praise points I feel are worth praising, its as simple as that.
People may not agree with the points I raise or criticise and I dont expect everyone to neither.

Going by remarks here on various previous occasions for someone that isnt supposedly into FM3 or constantly gets painted as an anti FM3 person because I have my own views why then did I buy the Fanatec wheel, 2 extra consoles, 3 copies of the LE and 3 screens to run it on? If anything I should be called the FM3 nutter on these forums.

I like racing games, so I want them to be as good as possible.
Regards this demo, it takes time to get used to the cars handling but Ive found when you start to learn the track and how it behaves it does give a very good sense of feedback and control.
No doubt the physics are indeed improved and anything under a 1'39.00 on this track is when I found the car comes to life and your on the edge even though thats not even close to top times.

Im going to compare the 370Z in FM3 tomorrow as Ive not even tried that car yet in FM3

Yes, I was just making that up, in response to a few of the people replying in here whinging, the clue was in the smiley ;)

I thought all they stated was it would be a 1 track, 1 car game time trial game, that would allow entry into the GT academy. Additionally they said it would have improved physics over GT5:P. So to me it seemed that they delivered everything they stated, but that is just my opinion. In that respect, comparisons to Forza 3 or comments about the full GT5 coming out next year, seemed a tad irrelevant.

No doubt the physics are indeed improved and anything under a 1'39.00 on this track is when I found the car comes to life and your on the edge even though thats not even close to top times.

The main reason behind the "branding" was taking into extremes, where over the summer I would paint over any problems with the Forza franchise, as you did with the GT one, there's no need to take things personally, but you, and myself did jump to the defence of "our games" a lot more than other would, and you always stuck by GT5: P as being a "better" game than FM2 etc.. and I felt the opposite..

As said, nothing personal, was just poking the extremes of all cases.

Well having had a few laps on the demo yesterday, the handling of the tuned car feels really weird, yes I'm using a pad, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the car handles in a very odd way.

I hope the full GT5 game doesn't handle like that, as I have played every GT game to date and I have loved every single one of them and I want an awesome driving experience just like I had on GT on the PS1.

Tim,

Call yourself a fanboy if you want mate but not me.
I dont want to be part of anything that puts me in such a position and Im sick to the teeth were it seems you cant criticise parts of a game here but still be a fan of it or enjoy it without being branded and named called like ibert was happy to do. I recently thought he had got over that and had turned a new leaf...

Fanboys tend to be one minded and dont seem willing to accept something else. Yes we can have preferrences and base that on benifits or personal things we each like within different games.

Aghhh so why do I defend the crowds when james mentioned them.
Well the crap crowds in this demo are what GT5P had which this is based on and only a 200mb download. Where they meant to be better in this Demo?
If the full game doesnt improve on these then yes that will be an annoying element but again id rather have better looking cars and lighting with 16 cars remember than have better crowds and 8 cars. Whats more benificial in gameplay or pleasing and I disagree with James that the crowds ruin the gameplay.

Dont forget when GT5 does arrive it will have issues and flaws and I will be amongst the most severe to criticise its failings and drawbacks.

So far nothing in detail has really been announced and confirmed for GT5, that we can criticise. Everything announced so far has been something to make GT5 stand out over other games either technically or in something that goes beyond what other console racing games have done or offer, so in that I see reason to believe it could become a great title and possibly the best GT yet.

Examples:
Head Tracking / 3DTV Compatible / 1080p Graphics / 60 FPS / Most Detailed Car Models /

Will these make it the most technically advanced racing game on a console?

1000 Cars with Cockpits / 20 Locations approx 70 tracks inc Exclusives / WRC & Nascar Content / Superior Damage Modelling and Animation
Setting a new benchmark?

Rumoured
Weather Effects / Night & Day cycles / Full online modes and leaderboards / Top Gear Content / Car Clubs / Car Upgrades

All to be confirmed but reported on as possible features.

Now since when did we have a racing game that promised so much?
I dont think anyone needs to be a fanboy to recognise this is more substantial than other racing games

i never said the crowds ruin the gameplay, its just unsightly. what i said was i'd rather have no crowds than that rubbish, it's something that wouldn look out of place in gran turismo 2, not gt5.

This game is a lot worse than GT5P for me.

GT5P Looked much better (Granted this is only a demo) and it seemed to handle better as well.

:(

Well I was referring to your enjoyment of the game.
Something has to be sacrificed perhaps to maintain the amount of polys in the cars and with 16 of them James. Ive said it before what other game has achieved this on console on this 2 year+ old engine you refer to. Not a single other developer/game yet (except wipeout hd) has managed what PD did 2+ years ago.

Just because PD havnt shown any improvements in the engines graphics or lighting/shadows do we then have to assume that we wont get any improvements in the full release?

Perhaps a new trailer will be shown at CES in Jan.

Fair do's then Latte, as said, was taking it to more extreme measures, but thats fair enough.

Maybe I'm just PO'd at PD, they seem to have all this awesome promise and features, but falls in a lackluster way with what is awesome features, great promise, then an engine about as sophisticated as the original outrun :(

I'm a massive, huge GT fan, and avid gamer and I LOVE racing games, it just feels such a waste seeing awesome tech and amazing features, going onto a special needs driving engine :(

Im finding it difficult going fast yet staying within the limits.
The people that are doing low 1'36 in the tuned car credit to their efforts and skill.

I personally dont find this car handling in a weird way. It handles kinda like a car would but has a nervous twitchyness if applying too much throttle too early and over GT5P id say this requires more finesse and is even less forgiving. I disagree that the car turns on a 360 axis independent of the track. If anything thats like how previous Colin Mcrae games were.

Now maybe some are finding it hard and then unenjoyable but I would doubt those that are doing pretty good times in it would complain much about the handling.

Personally Id say regarding the tuned version Ive tried it is more sensative in throttle and turning in. You need to be pretty precise but Ive seen on several occasions in this demo me catch the back end coming off a corner but over correct it tyring to catch it and then re correcting yet still being able to hold it together.

Its not often a games physics will allow you to catch a car going out of control maybe once but not twice. To me that feels quite realstic and finding the sweet spot with the throttle and amount of wheel correction is a skill that will in this take plenty of practice to master.

Hoestly I think most are finding this difficult and certainly judging by the times in the thread here on Ocuk thats evident.

Id like to see Ibert, Timbrad, and James Millar add their times to the running time thread. Well lads you up for it?
Having played this for about 2 hours today and once you start getting the hang of it, certainly in the tuned car (all ive tried) it is possible to appreciate how good the physics are.

Watching the replay really shows how the car moves around and responds to the throttle.

Honestly? Nope I'm really nto up for it, I'm spending what little free time I have with Forza 3 and MW2 and really don't enjoy the GT5: Academy game at all.

I'll maybe give it another try later on some time, but I'll prob just hold my breath and pray for the full game to be different!
