Your plans for 2010?

Will be treating the RS4 with:

KWv3 coilovers
Sachs clutch kit
Brembo big brake conversion with Pagid yellows and Motul RBF600 brake fluid

In the maybe list are:

10mm spacers rear, 8mm spacers front
2010 RNS-E upgrade

only had the car 2 weeks but looking at:

get airbag fault resolved
upgraded intercooler pump
larger pulley and remap
fitting an LSD

also if not already done by then - Sell the M3!!

Intercooler Pump, sounds interesting, whats that about Tom?

well chargecooler pump really.

standard one is rubbish and on its way out, so causes intake temps to rise when driving hard for any length of time and ecu goes into safety mode, all comes back to life after a couple of minutes to cool down. fairly standard problem and easy fix, plus upgrade flows 50% more, so better at keeping temps lower. :)

well, having serviced the ST220 and put some slightly better pads on it, 2010 will be dedicated to enjoying the thing. I'm hoping to do my first track day February time! :)

Ah cool, whats the stock chargecooler like and scope for upgrades?

Take it you need to change the crank pully to a larger one and simply can't downsize the supercharger nose pully or do both?

Whats the power expectations?

Not a great deal planned really. The only real work that needs attending too is getting a new O/S wing and having the damage on the bumper sorted. Im torn as to if I should get a new wing and have it sprayed or hunting down a good condition one from a scrapped car. Either way im fitting myself so its all waiting untill the weather improves. A new exhaust was planned but that had to be done for the MOT when the car was written off so one less job.

2010 - ride around on my bike until I can decide what car to get next. Current top of the list is a Clio Trophy. Cheap, fun, moddable and more practical than any of my normal cars.

Car:
Downgrade the MX5 wheels from 17" to 15" and put some decent rubber on them!
Refurbish all the brakes.
Have a look at suspension options.

Bike:
New Seals and pistons for Brakes.
Buy and fit TrialTech unit.
Make either my GSXR Track fairings fit the SV or see if 675 Fairings can be modded to fit..

Get a test ride on all bikes I can and see what my next biking venture will be :)

stock chargecooler is o.k. but plenty of upgrade possibilities.

I hate FI engines sometimes! much more reasonable to tweak!

It seems like you have to change the crank pulley and it seems a lot more expensive than I would expect for a pulley / belt! Either way pulley and remap should see between 40-70bhp increase and the same or a bit more torque increase, depends on which tuner you talk to and what size pulley you go for.

My plans for 2010 are simply to tidy up the GTi.

Remove the Goodwood leather seats from the XS, bolt into the GTi.

Sell on the XS & E30. Having them outside is just plain embarrassing now.

New Road Tyres. Falken 912s/Toyo T1Rs are likely.

Find and Fit Complete set of Phase 2 black interior trims - Dashboard, centre console, door pockets, the works. Basically If it's Plastic, It'll be changed.

Sort out the intermittent tapping from the head. It is either something really simple (injectors, 'loose' plugs, crap oil, or bent valves requiring another Head rebuild. If it's the later, ignore for slightly longer.)

Running gear overhaul. GTI6 Front Brakes and Xsara VTS Steering rack. The overly stiff and crashy Jamex suspension will be thrown in the bin in the favour of a more London friendly setup, but which isn't too soft that it can't hold its own on the occasional track day. Blisten B4 Front Shocks, Eibach Springs -30mm springs (Although I have a slight problem with scraping if I don't hit speed humps right, I love the stance the car has with the current -30mm drop) VTS Struts, a 306 GTI-6 rear dampers on a rebuilt 309 beam seems the current favourite.

Exploit cheap labour from work :D. Possibly get the exterior trims sprayed Black (with either a white or yellow highlight), wheels refurb'd and sprayed to match the highlight (Gold or White) get the bodywork touched up slightly, machine mopped and polished. Full interior valet.

Then I've got a serious decision to make. The car will be nearing completion and my idea of the perfect 205 GTi, but by now the expiry date of insurance policy will be looming and so will the possibility of moving on to another car. If those few weeks after getting the car 'finished' I'll have to make the decision to either

A) Keep it. Use the money I'd have saved up for a replacement on Rebuilding the head with the most aggressive valvetrain I can get away with a standard bottom end and stick on a nice set of ITBs, assoicated management and a LSD.

Or

B) Sell it (If the ticking problem is bent vavles, throw a second hand head on it). Start the hunt for a decent e32, e34 540i Manual Touring or a MK3 Toyota Supra that doesn't have filler for arches.

Knowing my short attention span when it comes to cars, It'll probably be 'B', but we'll see :).

I've just sold my Impreza and bought a mint UK DC2 ITR. It doesn't really need much doing to it although it will need a gearbox refurb' at some point (input shaft bearing a little noisy)
There's very little you can do to these cars to 'improve' on OEM without spending ridiculous amounts of money. Although I may get a cat-back exhaust as the stock one is a little too quiet. I will just be enjoying it I think! :)

Nothing mega for the Exige as I plan to move out at some point.

  • Repair + repaint rear clam (reversed into a building :p )
  • Stiffer engine mounts as the OEM ones are comically soft.
  • Spare set of wheels and stickies such as A048's or 888's for track days.
  • Nitron dampers + Eibach springs, will need something custom valved that's suitable for the road and not just the track.
  • Nitron Uprated toe links.
  • Another geo after the above is fitted, maybe a slight ride height drop as well.

Neil.

Mk3 Supra? Isnt that a poor mans Mk4 Supra TT ;) E34 540i is a bit of poor mans E34 M5 as well!

I suppose I'll potentially have to bankrupt myself and get a e32 750iL then :D.

For my car (Mustang) I'd like to Supercharge but that will only happen if some spare cash comes up.

For the missus car (Mini Cooper) replace with something larger and more practical.

I was due a 5k bonus and a 3-5% pay rise - unfortunately the recession has ruined the chance of that happening :( Holidays and food are my priorities and as such a new car will have to take the back burner. Still the 147 has done me proud and with only 40k miles it's not exactly going to be hard to sell when I do sell it... but I was hoping for an upgrade and go back to RWD... maybe I can find a bargain RWD for 5k instead of the 10k+ I had my eyes set on.
