*The Bluray Quality Thread*

Yellowstone is another BBC natural history thing. Meant to be quality. Want to get Planet Earth on BR as well but my brother got that on DVD in October for his birthday so I think I should leave some more time before I get it on BR. :p
Thinking of ordering a few natural history sets as well, life and planet earth being two, would also love it if the blue planet was available on blu ray.

Underworld - Thought this was really good! Film grain throughout but in close-ups it wasn't a problem, the quality's still crystal clear. Sound is brilliant throughout and I thought overall it was 8.5/10 mostly due to the film grain.

Just tried to buy some films from bluray on the bogof offer... both films are definitely in the offer, both £11 each, but it's still wanting to charge £22 to my card....

Are you trying to do this online? If you go into the store and speak to someone there they will just fix that problem at the till.

There is also a much bigger choice in store than online (granted you goto a large Tesco store).

Yeah, it's the online store that I've been having problems with. Gave them a call and the woman I spoke to just gave me an £11 gift card credit on my account to cover the bogof. :)

Yep it's a series i realy enjoyed, think it would look stunning in hi def.
Would have thought the BBC would release most, if not all, of its natural history stuff on BR as that is probably the best demonstration of HDTV you can get. That and surely would make Aunty a bit of dosh on the side. ;)

Just succumbed to another BR offer and got Hot Fuzz and The Fugitive for £17! :o

After trying out my first BR, Blade Runner: Final Cut, I was so impressed I picked up these:

I hope they do eventually, so many great series from the bbc over the years. Good deal on hot fuzz and the fugitive. Still waiting on the hurt locker and district 9 to add to my small collection, sadly my order seems to be delayed.:(

Thanks. :) Yeah it was a good deal. It's as if the industry is trying to get 2010 to be the year of the Bluray. Lots of deals on BRs and BR players getting cheaper. :p

OK, I know some of these have been done already, but my opinions on quality for the blu-rays I have.

The Matrix - Prettymuch as good as it's going to get, though the DVD was great anyway. The fact that it doesn't have the annoying green tinge all the way through earns it another point though - 9/10

The Matrix Reloaded - Very good again, picture and sound impressive and much better than DVD this time - 9/10

The Matrix Revolutions - currently watching, will update

Oceans Eleven and Oceans 12 - both these films are surprisingly good picture and sound quality. 9/10

The Dark Knight - have not seen better, imax sequences just breathtaking - 10/10

Quantum of Solace - not bad, not great either, could expect more from this in terms of the quality, I found it a bit grainy. I know that's the film but I'm not sure why when other older films don't have this - 7/10

Hancock - a fairly standard affair, blu-ray quality as expected - 8/10

Transformers - excellent special effects, great conversion to BR - 9/10

Surperman the movie - if you own the DVD you'll be pleasantly surprised, but this is an old film and just can't stack up to the newer releases - 7/10

Picked up Ghostbusters the other day. Not that great to be honest, considering the age of the film it's fine but i'm glad i only spent £5 on it. Still grainy when dark but nice to see the CGI stuff in better detail. 5/10

Really? I found Oceans 11 in particular to be fantastic.

Perhaps I have low standards!
Probably. :p Here's some quotes.

I just finished watching Ocean's 12 as I just love this trilogy... However, the quality is SO POOR it is even worse than a Divx!!! I just don't understand how this can be sold as a Blu Ray when the quality is so bad...
Just don't buy it, it will be better if you buy the DVDs!
I am honestly truly disppointed and I am now thinking about a way to contact customer service to obtain reimbursement! That's just a scandal to even pay for this!

i really really love the oceans films, there really good, but i have to say in all honesty that oceans 13 on bluray is by far the worst bluray i have ever seen as far quality is concerned, very grainy, highly evident in the blue colours of this movie

I've only just watched the first movie from my box set, and I am sorry that I bought the Blu Ray. It is the first in my collection to truly disappoint me. The movie is always grainy (more so than the DVD version that a friend has), and the apparent 'upscaling' has if anything reduced the quality. I considered giving it 2 stars as the first and third films themselves are good, but the second film just brings it down (yes I have seen them, I just haven't watched the blu ray of the second and third films).

If you want these films, buy the DVD. Cheaper, and probably better picture quality.

Well I just bought Serenity as my first Blu-ray :)
You'll enjoy it. Flipping good film and excellent quality. Have you watched the Firefly series? I just got Firefly for Xmas but got Serenity for my birthday in November. :p I have to say a lot of stuff in Serenity makes sense having watched Firefly now. :D
