AION - could become great?

the thing is Aion cant win, there are the usual bunch who complain about the grind because they cant hit max level in a week, then there are those who have raced to lvl 50 and now complain they have nothing to do !! it happens in most MMo's ... yes I know who saw that coming ??

the simple fact is that the game is already great and its only 3 months old, with future updates and possible extra content it can only get better.

thats true but you cant deny that they didnt tune the xp properly but I also felt I had done everything the game had to offer even before I had before level cap since there isnt anything new apart from 1 pvpve dungeon

well I have three main chars Chanter 34, Spiritmaster 35 and a Ranger 36 with a 22 Assassin hiding in the wings (no pun intended) ... I generally play each one advancing one level at a time, I do this with all MMo's or RPG's and it certainly keeps the game fresh. One thing I would like to add is that if your not in a fun Legion then the game will surely get monotonous and boring, you have to have interaction otherwise you might aswell be playing a SP game.

Rifting is great fun if your in a small group and keep moving around, not knowing if the enemy in front of you is higher or lower in level, and last but not least solo flying around the Abyss is good for breaking up the Quest grind.

At the moment I've barely scratched the surface of the game, and for me PvP will be the main focus as I loathe instances that take hours to complete, I'd much rather fight against other players then corspejump them .. that is until they add 'tea-bag' emote :D

The XP is fine as it is, people are just lazy and want everything handed to them in a plate. I hit 50 legit after 5-6 weeks of the game being out. Since then I stopped playing as much and casually played a cleric to 34 I think it was. Its not hard at all.

Its a great game, it has great potential but I don't think it every will make it over here as one of the greats.

I'm casually playing as an Assassin, am level 25 at the moment, will be on this weekend as much as possible for the double XP, but it is a grind sometimes, but I've never found it to be too bad. Yes you do have to grind a repeat quest maybe 3 or 4 times to level up, but there's always more to be opened up. I've just got into the Abyss and I don't really know what it's like properly but I'm going to go up a few levels before starting PvP properly. The only thing I've found is that it can be hard to get a group for some of the lower group quests as people often just want to grind on their own - not sure if this is true higher up in the game. I think the looks of Aion are stunning though and have no desire to stop playing which is unusual as I normally only play games for a short time before being bored.

The game is good in some parts, especially the first 30 levels then its just a massive grind. There is very little content at lvl 50 and the worst is NSOFT itself as the support they provide is worst than a joke, almost no communication at all (they can't/won't use their official forums to communicate or reply to major issues posts).

Spend your money on a company that cares about their customers.

I found aion to be fun for awhile the main problem for me was the pve side of things. I actually liked the grind side of things and the look of the game.

I just didnt find grouping with people and the pve side of it that great. It was all tank and spank.

then you play th game to an excess and as such do represent a majority, unfortunately it was developers listening to your class of player that destroyed wow, i pray for aions sake they dont go down the same road.

The games PVP system itself is flawed, totally.

The way it's set-up is that if you die when you're high ranked you lose a mega amount of points, die 2 or 3 times and you've basically lost a whole day worth of AP. This encourages 2 things, the first is 6 v 1 gank squads, fun at first, but after a while it's boring, especially if you want to just solo or duo PvP.

The second, and worst of the 2 is suiciding/logging. If you're a high rank and it looks like you're going to die, people either do a fast log out of the game to avoid losing their AP, or they cut their wings and suicide by falling so their death doesn't count as a PvP death and they keep their points.

It makes the game completely pointless.

I enjoyed it for a while, I was in the top Elyos legion on my server but I just gave up on it due to over crowding (try farming krall molars when every single spot is already camped, some having 2 groups fighting over the same spot, and krall molar equipment is the BEST at that level), tons of botting (from 25+ there was nothing but bots, whole sections of a zone were unplayable due to bots there), pathetic GMs (I've seen bots go on for over a month and not get banned) and a big grind 35+.

I'm not saying grinding is always a bad thing, I've played my fair share of games that require grinding, but the problem is that, I've done my share, I know what grinding is like, I just want to get on with the damn game.

Bug wise I thought it was great for a release, but that said, it wasn't fresh, it had been released elsewhere for over a year, and I found the odd bug in it, unlike FFXI which had even few bugs on US launch (as least from my experience).

I hate to sound like I am whining but I don't see any other way to put it, the devs failed, they acted way to slow on key issues. If bots were banned within a few days of being reported, if over crowding wasn't an issue, if people never made tons of shops everywhere to avoid logging out, and if they was prepaired so there wasn't 9 hour queues (which I had to go through) then perhaps I would still be playing.

In the grand scheme of things I think it did better than AoC and Warhammer Online, and it may continue well for a year or two, but for me the first impression on an MMO is a BIG deal, you screw it up and you lose customers, do it right and you have loyal customers spreading the game by word of mouth.

Errrm wtf are you on about. WoW is easy mode, nothing requires you work for anything in that game. When I say the exp is fine I mean Aion is seriously easy to level they need to make it harder. Out of interest how did people of my class of player make wow change anything? If anything it was the cry babys who found the game too hard and wanted everything handed to them on a plate that changed the game, not people like me who want the game harder, who want items dropped when you get pked etc.

Aion crashed and burned for me when I realised there is actually nothing to do in it. Pitty really, the game itself was good looking, combat was fun enough and the concepts and story were nice, it was just a little bit empty.

forget WoW this is an Aion thread ....

sure Aion had login problems and mass Botting, both have been sorted now so those problems are old news. Aion on release was probably the most polished MMo i've played since Lotro. The early access to the game had massive queue's because NcSoft didn't expect such a massive subscription which only goes to show how popular it was..

I really enjoy the Abyss and PvP in general, how it balances out at level 50 is too soon to call and without having a char at max level I cant really comment, but I look forward to it .... anyone who is too afraid to die is playing the wrong game ;) oh and Aedus, not everyone is as cowardly as you make out, well unless your an Elyos pigeon !!! :p

Funnily enough I knew that guy, he still went lethal arrow even though i told him not to :( lol

eekfek - nice video but unfortunately you cannot do this with every single character, especially with mele chars, or non stealth ones, rangers are OP :P

The vid was more to show that being high ranked doesnt mean your afraid to lose AP when solo PvP'ing.

I agree that in all MMo's there are some classes that just seem to have the best of all worlds however that doesnt concern me, I consider it more of a challenge to fight someone better and I dont care about dying. Regarding the stealth issue, there are pots that reveal the rangers stealth making it useless against well tooled up opponents, oh and dont forget in Aion the Assassin class is THE most deadly melee of them all killingcloth/leather based enemies in under 3-5secs !! ... eeeeeeevil little buggers they are, I tell ya

btw theres a lot of 'leaked' info regarding the next Aion patch which has some good news for lowbie Abyss players with some new instance's and new AP mechanics ;)

SECRETLY LEAKED DETAILS OF 1.8

NCSoft leaks some of their update details to get attention... thats how they roll.

These are the details... if these are applied, Zapiel's Spear will rise more in prices ^^

I took these from a server specific forum.

1.8 Update!

This is a big update, but I'll tell you a few things about it.

Leaked the information about 1.5 before that turned out to be right... so you can choose to trust me or not.

1. AP Gain System Change

Until now, if a rank 9 killed a 1 star he/she would gain more AP than a rank 5 killing 1 star, but now if the rank difference is more than 5, you gain less AP.
This will prevent mass suicidal kill attempts on you (if you are high rank) just to get your kill.

2. Ground Abyss

Well thats about it. Theres gonna be a ground Abyss.

3. Dredgion's Appearance

Dredgion will appear much more frequently during sieges and will take forts much more often.

Also Seed of Detection II will be added which will allow Hide II to be seen.

4. Alliance Dredgion

They say there will be a dredgion with multiple teams going in. With 3 teams on each side, but not like forming an alliance then going in like in sieges.

5. Defensive Godstones

Theres gonna be defensive godstones. Its gonna be something like 10% proc rate heal 890 hp, 2% proc remove all CC from yourself.
These trigger not upon hitting with your weapon, but on receiving attacks.

6. Divine Abyss Points, Divine Medals

These new things can only be gained through PvP. They say these can be gained only from other PCs. For the points you'll need to just PvP. And theres gonna be quest to earn Divine Medals through a certain amount of kills. Really focusing on PvP.

7. Manastones and ASPD Items change
This is for balancing, but theres gonna be a different way of being able to slot manastones.
Manastones for spear, manastones for daggers, manastones for greatswords... are gonna have different levels of manastones available for them. Also, items with ASPD will have a lower accuracy. Probably because everyone looks forward to ASPD items.

8. Tezo's Instance

Like I said earlier theres gonna be ground abyss, which means there will be forts, which also means there will be Abyss Instances. This is not a new map, but sort of like Fire Temple/Draupnir Cave type. Mobs in this instance will also be placed randomly each time you enter, its gonna be challenging/annoying.

9. Item Level Upgrade

Note: I dont quite get this part, and so does this guy... but here I go

No level cap raise, but theres gonna be sort of an item upgrading system. At level 50, you can upgrade your item so that it goes up a grade.

I didnt quite get this part at first so I listened more

No level cap raise, but you can level your item like normal leveling your character and it will upgrade.

Something like 3 levels... like level one will have 300 atk, level two will have 350, level three 400. Same weapon, but get more out of it.

This is leaked from the K-Aion Devs, dont know if its 100% (I got this from another server forums)[/color]

Imo the seed of detection II addition is stupid, it just makes stealth pointless. Other stuff looks good though.....

Sounds interesting...

How long you going to be playing MMOs? Yes they finally turned in the right direction, but the first expansion and subsequent patches just pandered to hardcore raiders and ignored the rest of the game. Aion is not an easy game to level in because its not fun to level in, your class of player made wow chage by posting loads of crap on the forums and blizzard listening to it. If you want hardcore pvp join me in darkfall.

I've played MMOs for about 12 years now since UO first came out, you know pre Trammel. I plan on playing for many many many years to come. Hardcore raiders? WoW and hardcore? Please, I was in a guild called Forte and at the time I geeked it like the rest of them and maybe, just maybe back then it was hardcore to the extent of getting the highest rank in PvP farming like 12 + hours a day. Over the years it has just got more and more of an easy mode. My class of player is a minority and the QQ kids are the majority and thats who they listened to and made changes for.

You know I keep debating coming back to Darkfall, I recently started Eve up again. The only problem I found with Darkfall is the macro users are so far ahead there is no way to catch up with them. Its not a skill thing as most of my fights when I played that game resulted in me hitting people about 5-6 times to them hitting me once. Again I still wouldn't call Darkfall hardcore PvP (even though its full loot)

They are continually shortening the time it takes to max out and you can easily become competitive in a month, im guessing much less for you as at a guess i'd say you play 40 hours a week minimum, i really dont know what your looking for though, if darkfall isnt hardcore what exactly do you want? perma death?
