I've been asked by someone to plan (done), purchase on their behalf then set up a new network at a hotel.

Involving a lot of cat5e cabling, installing/setting up a server & 4 user PCs, user profiles, other software, new wireless for guests, UPS, etc.

They've asked if I want a fixed percentage of the total hardware costs, or hourly.

I'm going to ask a friend who's anally retentive about cabling, so he'll do a good job.

Probably think it'll take 6 man days.

how about this, an initial setup of about 350/400 desktops 100laptops including any misc cabling, plus remote support (including server/software updates)

68k per year

How about you charge one of these...

Just right for you ScilliMission.

We can all dream I suppose...

Edit: Just so you know what i'm actually talking about...http://www.scillymission.com/blog/104-decided-on-a-car

1. Price up the parts.
2. Add mark up on parts.
3. Work out how long it will take to set up the server, client PCs, etc @ ..£500 a day? (sounds like maybe 1.5-2 days - half day set of server side at your place then 1 day onsite at client inc basic training).
4. Get someone cheap to do the cabling separately.

I would work off £50-60 an hour and a small but reasonable markup on parts.

£400-500 a day depending on how many hours you put in. Laying cable is RELATIVELY unskilled so your mate would take a smaller cut.

How much is it going to cost you in parts?

I'd probably do all that for £2k depending on what other costs are involved. As a quick guestimate.

700 quid a day to lay some cable, are you having a laugh?

You would think so, wouldn't you? I did a job before Christmas that was basically putting 4 workstations and a printer on some desks and connecting them to a switch, the client was quoted £760 per day (2 days work).

Not sure what the surprise is. Pretty standard industry pricing. What your mate can do for a favour hardly represents the running costs that a full on business needs to cover within their charge out rates.

I charge out at £85 an hour at work and it could be for something as simple as a corrupt boot file or tick box option.
