Why are we now **** in snow?

Drove my CTR in the same weather last time we had this kind of weather without any issues and I'm doing just the same in the MX5.

Grit does naff all IMO. It's not the fact roads haven't been gritted, it's that they haven't been cleared or used. A plough would make more sense.

This is something else I don't get; when did fog lights become snow lights? 90% of cars with fog lights here are using them. Idiots.

According to recent trends they're apparantly also daytime running lights, rain lights, sidelights and main beam.

Pet hate

Grit only works in combination with traffic use. It needs to be trodden in to do anything.

i think there is a serious amount of snow in England this winter.

certainly more than usual. people don't have experience of driving in snow, but most importantly SUMMER TYRES DON'T WORK IN SNOW.

there really isn't much more to it

People are prepared for snow in countries where it's a common occurance.
Thats the fact of the matter. Few people over here will own snow tyres, chains etc.
Which is why we're so rubbish in snow, I tried to get out of the street today, no dice, but I don't have the money to buy snow tyres which will only very very rarely get used.

We were never "good" in snow in the UK.

Driving is proportionately cheaper than it once was, as in, more people earn enough to own a car. Cars are cheaper to buy and more reliable.

Think of them as low IQ lamps if used in the wrong conditions.

What if visibility is less than 100m due to the snow falling and the highway code recommends use of fog lights.

do you not own a shovel? :p

Which gets me to a main road... What then? Not all of us have a destination that's right off a main road. All the side roads off my road are impassable. The same would go for my office car park. Why bother?

That and I'm ill :p

nail on the head imo. Obviously people in Poland etc are going to be good at driving in the snow due to the fact they will have a guaranteed few inches of snow for a couple of months a year. Over here your average Joe isn't going to go out and splash out on a Range Rover with studded tyres because we get a bit of heavy snow once in a while.

Lack of experience/equipment due to our climate, simple as that....imo obviously.

I dont think I have ever seen cars with snow chains on . . . .

It is a fact that we do not get snow like this. This is an exception and I have never ever seen it this bad myself. First time I drove in bad snow was 2 weeks ago. Learned a hell of a lot that night. Even so, experience doesnt stop accidents.
Although it is fun to slide around Asda car park . . . :)

Last time we had snow like this was 20 years ago.

At the time i was far too overjoyed to have a week off school, and far too young to be interested in learning to drive on it.

If people cant learn to use indicators properly, or how to park properly

what chance have we got of teaching people to drive in bad snow when it only does it for a few days once every 20 years ?
