Would this be a good upgrade?

If you are willing to spend that kind of money, it certainly would be a brilliant upgrade. The good thing is, that you won't need to buy another motherboard as the current one is the correct socket.
 
What is the pc being used for, video or photographic work then yes, but for gaming ect I will say probably not.

That chip is nearly the same price as an i5 750 quad and p55 mobo!
