AMD Phenom II X4 955 BlackEdition,AM3, 3.2GHz using below cooler
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2

Is 40c idle temp OK for this CPU with no over-clocking ?

Thanks Anthony.

Depends. What's the temperature of the room the computer is in? How high does the temperature climb at full load?

It is quite warm in the room , its not too far from the radiator too,
What program should i use to test the CPU under load?

I'm not sure what the flavour of the month is for load testing a CPU. I'd guess Prime95 is still pretty good for heating it up.

A ~20deg jump under load from idle is higher than my 955 goes (I'm using a Sunbeam tower cooler with an Apache fan), even when I overclock. I'd wait and see if anyone else pipes up though!

ok what is the MAX temp for this CPU?
should i be worried about 40c idle temp and a rise of 20deg under load ?

Using the Rev 1.0 Freezer, I get 40 idle in a warm room too. Thats nothing to worry about at all. The fan is only spinning at a low rate, keeping it quiet.
When I put heavy load on it, the fan spins up and keeps it to about 57, again nothing to worry about.
Max temp listed on AMD site here :
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=15705708
is 62.

So if stays under 60 on fulll load you're fine.

The PII (955BE and the like) do tend to have 'high' idle temps.. Ideally you don't want load temperatures to go above 62c. A 20c load delta is about right

I would firstly check the heatsink mounting make sure that you have a good contact.. secondly what's you case airflow like? cable tidying and ensuring obstructions to the airflow are removed can make a big difference..

If the above is all fine.. you could try under volting the CPU if you are really concerned about the load temps

20c with a standard or artic cooler on idle is very optimistic :p

mine with stock fan (till new one arrives ) and at 3.6 24/7 is 40 c on idle and is about 55c load.

the stock cooler are actually about as good as the artic cooler ones :D

ok what is the MAX temp for this CPU?
the max tcase is 62c

keep your eye on the overall cpu temp, not core temp.

this is what i received from amd

Dear Gareth,

Correct, as long as you are within the voltage and temperature guidelines you are ok. The temperature that should be monitored is the overall CPU temperature, not the core temp.

Best regards,
Jesse

60c under load man thats hot i gotta say!

My 955 under wc dosen't go over 36*C full load and it idles at 30*C

What case are you using ?

its a lan cool one, inside case it tidy, but the comp is very near the radiator which is been one since i built the computer,
if room temp plays a big part it could be due to this, as my living room is really warm.

thats what core temp says my rooms not very hot so about right idleing now at 32*C

Its at stock speed 3.2GHz

+ cold UK outside

i'll get back too you on that one, from just looking at core temp now i think it could be miss reading the temps tho i don't thinks its far off but it should be low temps its running on custom water cooling.

core temps one thing the speed fan says different well i dont know but the water block doesn't get very hot when you touch it but its still very good temps :)

sorry for the big pic
