The Pacific **NEW TRAILER**

Cannot wait for this now. Got the Sledge book before Xmas and have just finished it, could hardly put it down, it was compulsive reading.

Am going to look into getting Helmet for a pillow after I have read "Nemesis" by Max Hastings.

The Sledge book is a fantastic read. Nemesis is a bit dry tbh.

As much as I loved Band of Brothers and will most likely love this as well I can't help but wish someone would make a British version about our boys (and girls) who thought and died from the very beginning of WWII to the bitter end.

It would be good if someone did the book 'Pegasus Bridge', which was also written by Stephen E Amrbose, the man who wrote Band of Brothers.

If you have not read it, i recommend it, a very good book with a good story from the english side. It coveres the first capture of any land in France, before the D-Day landings, a whole 12 hours before the ships came in.

I agree entirely. Such a great book (and true story) would make a fantastic mini-series/film.

I went on holiday to Normandy about 7 years ago. Visited the Pegasus Bridge museum, amongst others. What an amazing piece of flying to get those gliders to the points where they landed. Superb bravery. Sword beach was undoubtedly the most important beach (strategically)to capture on D-Day by far, but most people seem to only remember Omaha and Utah.

I do agree with what has been said though, somebody with some money ought to make a big budget film or series about our lads in WW2. All too often an American makes it with awful cliche accents (Band of Brothers guilty I'm afraid), but I think we deserve something!!

I think the perfect setting for a "British" WW2 yarn would be either Pegasus or Arnhem.

Nobody ever makes films set around the Royal Navy either, although a work of fiction, they ought to make the film of HMS Ulysses.

I suspect sky bought the rights to it and expect large numbers of sky users to subscribe to the movie channel for this....its all about £.

Oh hell yes.

Why can they not put this on the BBC?:(

For the simple reason that BBC couldnt be bothered to pay for it. Its not SKYs fault that they were willing to pay big money for it.

The makers of Pacific didnt sit there and say, right we will show this only on SKY in the UK. The programme was there, tv channels then have the choice to buy the rights to televise it.

Maybe if the BBC wasnt so damn obsessed with spending their budget on hugely over the top period dramas, soap operas and reality tv shows then they might have the funds necessary to purchase things like Pacific, Dexter, First Blood, 24 and a multitude of top sporting events. If the BBC doesnt choose to funnel their funds into those shows, its only the BBC who are to blame.

which are all highly viewed.

the real issue here, is BBC can't afford it. how do you compete with a channel that charges £16 a month just for movies. That are then repeated to hell for the next 4 weeks.

As others have said I'll also be waiting for blu-ray release.

Seems fair enough to me, if someone wants quality in something they should expect to pay for it.

BBC already gets a chunk of the licence fee, maybe they should also look at other ways of raising money. Perhaps its time for them to consider advert revenue. If their problem is that they dont have the money to compete with other channels then its up to them to find ways to increase their income rather than berating the other channels for having funds.

I'll be watching it on Sky HD.

.

Are they berating other channels? Or i it just random people like you which is what my comment was aimed at.

They can not advertise they have a duty to provide stuff for everyone which is why they get a fee.

The programs they make and air have high viewing rates.

I perhaps didnt word it well, no..as far as I know BBC arent berating other channels, you're right its other people who seemingly are berating Sky for having it.

I dont believe in "can nots" generally speaking. Personally I suspect its only a matter of time before BBC has adverts, I have already read several articles over the last 3 years where preliminary investigations into the running of adverts on BBC have been looked at. In my not so expert opinion its just a question of when rather than if.
