How have your road surfaces fared with the freeze?

Assuming you can see your roads yet :p how have the surfaces fared with all the freezing? Round here they are a mess. Full of pot holes and cracks now. It's going to cost the council a lot to fix it all again.

Generally it's not been too bad round here, couple of zingers, however Berkhamsted high street is absolutely awful, easily the worst I've seen round this way.

Some of the ones around here were poor before the winter, now they are, how to put it, not good at all.

One in particular that I used the other day (haven't been on it for a week, so I suspect it's got a lot worse), had large chunks of the top surface of the road missing, the "normal" small holes were much bigger, and in a few places there were holes that looked to be a good 4-8 inches deep.
Oddly enough all of the worst holes were roughly where they had done quick and cheap patching after last year (patching that didn't last 6 months before it started to go).

Quite a few roads in north Kent have been damaged by the freeze. In about September time, the council seemed to go mad and do lots of resurfacing work. No doubt they'll do the same this year, so we can have a whole summer of potholed roads, get them repeaired in autumn, only to have them destroyed again in the winter of 2010

Someone was pulled up after a massive pothole changing to his spare wheel due to hitting it. It would have engulfed my entire wheel.

Roads are a minefield. However, I can see the government putting a tax in place/upping our current tax to cover the "wear and tear of winter Britain" or something similar. Wouldn't surprise me.

Lots round here in North Derbyshire as well.

Slightly O/T but maybe someone can answer this.
Why is it the council resurface some roads more frequently than others.

I drive through a really up market area quite a lot and quite often it is being resurfaced every few years. The road service is as smooth as anything. Lovely, like a race track.

But then you get some roads in 'not so' good areas if you will, that are like driving through a pot hole ridden test track. Absolutely terrible and never seem to be re surfaced ?

Why is that? I always think it is because the top brass at local council live in the more up market areas so pull strings, But then, I have been known to be wrong.

Not bad in general tbh, almost the same amount of potholes around my area as normal.

However just of the M6 on the way to work the freezing in one area is so bad its lifted 20 - 30 meter sections of road up and its all now turned into gravel, first i knew about it was on monday when the car dropped into a ditch!
