Fan speeds

I've noticed recently that my computer has started getting quite loud. After a bit of examination today I worked out it was my front intake fan.

I adjusted the fan speed from the 100% it was running at down to 40% using speedfan and it makes a massive difference.

The problem I have now though is to get it to stay at this speed. As soon as I reboot it will be back at 100%, even if I run speedfan automatically on startup. Anyway I can get around this? I've looked for options in speedfan but I can't see anything.

I could probably get away with just unplugging the fan completely as it's quite cold at the minute, but when my house starts heating up that could be a problem. I really can't be bothered to buy a new fan either, getting to it is a royal pain!

Thanks for any help.

You can reduce the supplied voltage to the fan.

Such as there are resistor cables you can buy that set the fan as either 9v or 7v depending on the cable

I bought them for ~£1.50 each from a competitor so don't want to give a link.

Or you can buy a Fan contoller which does the same thing but with the turning knob handle you can set the voltage (as thus speed) as anything you want.

Such as how about this

Thanks anth, but I cant really be bothered to add in something like that, it'd be just as quick an easy to buy a new fan.

I was hoping there might be a way to sort this out using software. I might just pull the fan out and keep an eye on the temps.
