You can you're perfectly at liberty to wear a balaclava, motorcycle helmet, morph suit or anything you like to cover your face.
Shop owners are also at perfect liberty to tell you to remove them or leave too.
They are? That's silly, I wonder how many hooligans, robbers, terrorists, etc have got away with their crimes in the UK because of it.
errm you can wear them in the Netherlands too iirc and most of europe.

Hmmm you are correct, I misread the article ( http://www.justitie.nl/actueel/nieu...-gezichtsbedekkende-kleding.aspx?cp=34&cs=578 , I thought it said they banned it back then in 2006), they wanted to ban it but in the end it only passed for in public transport, education and government services.

Well the one i used to wear as a kid on cold winters covered all but the whole face, them covering whole but eyes things look stupid.

Of course we pride ourselves on our freedom -- so the Burkha shouldn't be banned any more than kilts, flat caps, or mini-skirts.
My point is that someone wearing a face covering of any sort for religious purposes is far more likely to be able to legally contest any demands for it's removal should they wish than someone wearing a face covering for safety, comfort or fashion reasons.
Religious choices shouldn't be any more valid than personal ones.
Are any of them a mean of oppression? or can be used to hide ones identity?

Regardless, freedom of religion is a basic human right. Same way you are free to believe religion is stupid ( which imo it is
