is my new 5770 broke(arrived today)

why not try the antec psu calculator

http://www.antec.outervision.com/

and see if it runs your system

hope it helps

For a laugh I used that calculator to build a reasonable 4870 system (phenom x4, 2 hdd, dvd burner, the usual) - fully expecting the thing to recommend me a much bigger PSU than needed... and was pleasantly surprised.

It recommended 320w minimum :D

Course I wouldn't buy anything <400w myself, and normally I go for 500w for a gaming system. But for the average user, 450-550 is plenty.

700w should run most SLI setups and 1000w is just overkill for 95% of everyone.

You sure its seated correctly? Using one of those stupid dvi to VGA adaptors? Tried another output if avalible?

I small but unconfirmed observation browsing various forums is that these radeon 5 series cards dont seem very compatible with socket 939 systems.

Does the card at least show an error if no power is connected to the card ?

right if i use onboard vga and try to boot with the card in i get nothing BUT if i unplug the 5770 power connection then try and boot it will boot to OS:confused:

Does device manager see it? Obviously loading windows from the onboard graphics, are there a bunch of yellow question marks next to it.

he there, quick way to flash the bios is under windows although there is a small risk if your pc crashes while doing it. make sure your not running any programs like games, more browsers etc. NO overclocking ;)

1. go to this page http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=224

2. click on live update online at the bottom of the page

3. follow the prompts and read carefully the instructions

hope this helps

An obvious thing but easily overlooked, have you connected the 2nd half of the power supply plug ?, it's easy to overlook when pushing a six pin connector into an 8 pin hole. PSU plugs are split to accomodate both 6 and 8 pins cards

Except the card only has a six pin connector. I know because I have the very same card.

And its useless :( Had it for three months and it hard locks in any game (on various mobo/cpu/psu combinations) and OCUK refused to RMA it. Tried a ton of fixes, various drivers etc.

My advice would be to reset bios, if it still doesn't post then RMA it and get something else.
