Goodbye Cadbury

Shame to see them bought out, but the chocolate they make is very, very average at best. I truly don't understand how people can think they are one of the 'better' chocolate companies :o My guess is packaging and advertising, but whatever :D

They've got the amount of sugar just right - tons, but not so much to give you instant toothache! :D

They also temper their chocolate for way longer here than you're allowed to do in the USA (food laws), which is why Cadbury produced in the USA, under licence to Hershey at the moment, doesn't taste as good.

We should protect our companies just like other countries do like France and the US against foreign ownership.

I'm guessing a lot of tax in the UK coffers will disappear now especially if you look at that list of 50 companies.

It amazes me that most of major power, water and waste companies are French owned nowadays. They are slowly taking over peice by peice and one day they switch is off. I'm telling you here first! :p

The we will go to war with france and claim everything back.

How am I going to tempt my Mrs into bed now :(

Quite a number of years ago I used to work for Cadburys (Confectionary Division) and spent the first month at Bourneville, I arrived there on the Sunday, met up with a few of the others on the "Induction Course" and headed out for a few bevies, anyway, it ended up that I had more than a few! The first thing we had to do on Monday morning was have a tour around the factory and see how "the product" was made...I often wonder how I ever made it round the factory, as the heat in it was terrible not only from the machines, but it was also a very hot day outside), but what was terrible was the smell of the raw product (chololate), it took me all my time not to throw up!

For the two and a half years I worked for Cadburys (selling conf) I very rarely ate any off it, due to the lingering memory of that factory tour!

Haven't Kraft changed the recipee of almost every brand they have purchased? Also, with $22B debt they are going to want to shed jobs and move production offshore as fast as it humanly possible. Do the sums: Kraft global workforce, 90,000; Cadburys global workforce, 45,000.

+1

Can't wait to taste plastic-wrapped "Cadbury Singles"! :p

Look forward to the first batch of plastic container spread-able chocolate..!! lol

Kraft has a long list of brand names, Terry chocolate orange didn't change, so doubt Cadbury chocolate will - however I somehow fear for UK jobs on this one.... We'll see.

If the UK really wanted to block this, then surly the trading and commissions group would have done something, but not knowing an awful lot about company take over bids, I don’t think this would create a monopolisation. Therefore it was down to shareholders, and the deal was agreed….

Warnings about not cutting jobs will be announced, nothing will happen for the first few years, then after the dust has settled, we’ll hear of the first plant closures… As I said, we’ll see..

Can't see this going well. I very much doubt the Americans will be wanting to use Cadbury's recipes as, from what I've tasted of the dry, bitter **** they call chocolate, it'd be far too rich for them and wouldn't sell very well

when they can our nice chocolate half of them will (with luck) eat themselves to death..

thus saving the planet...

It doesnt already??

Cadbury's only just scrapes under the chocolate banner.

Not in the slightest and tbh Cadburys can make whatever they like and call it chocolate IMO, they pretty much invented the chocolate bar...

EDIT: That makes it sound like I don't like Cadburys chocolate, it's by far the best!
