PSN Problems.

Right, well, last night I had a good few hours on FIFA 10 and after I'd finished playing the game I returned to the XMB at which point it signed me out of PSN. I tried signing back in but kept being given an error code which I stupidly didn't write down. Anyway I gave up and went to bed.

All today I have been unable to stay connected to the PSN, I've checked on their website and it seems that the service is apparently "on" so it's not an issue their end. I've been going to Network and clicking sign in. It keeps my username and password saved so I don't have to re-enter them, every time I sign in however it will stay connected for a minute, sometimes 2 or 3 and then it'll just chuck me off again. Also it's showing 0 friends online and only 1 person in my friends list when I actually have about 7 or 8. They're not even showing as offline, they just aren't showing up.

I've tried deleting my login details and re-entering them but I'm still getting exactly the same problems; sometimes a refusal to login at all, other times a log in with all my friends missing followed by a chucking off the PSN. There is also no error message when I'm thrown off.

Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what I should try? If it makes any difference my Internet connection is working fine and I've tried it both wireless and plugged in with an Ethernet cable.

The PS3 is a 250GB slim with the standard 250GB HDD that came with it. Cheers in advance. :)

Is your PS3 in a DMZ/all the right ports forwarded?

What's a DMZ? It has been working fine ever since I've got it a month ago and not changed anything on or in my router settings.

Edit: I've just looked up DMZ and no, I've not set one of those up. It's just a Netgear router, I haven't altered any settings and the PS3 has been working perfectly ever since I bought my PS3 around a month ago. Now all of a sudden I've had no access to the PSN at all today. Very, very frustrating. :(

probably something on sony's end if it's been working for a month before hand.. though i'd stick it in dmz just to get the most out of your ps3 :)

I'll look into that. :)

This has just happened this morning;

Turn PS3 on
Notifies me I've signed into PSN
Shows only 1 person on my friends list
After a minute or two all the others show up but their avatars are not visible, even when clicking on their name
I then get disconnected from PSN

This is really, really annoying because I'm supposed to be playing in the Fifa tournament. :(

I'll have to do some Googling and see if I can sort it out, although Googling disconnected from PSN isn't helpful whatsoever! :o

It may be completely unrelated but I've only had these problems since playing World at War. I went and bought that on Tuesday and I've had sketchy PSN performance ever since, but like I said, it's probably just a coincidence.

I've just tried the Internet Connection Test on the PS3 in the Network settings and I've got the following;

Obtain IP Address: Succeeded
Internet Connection: Succeeded
Playstation Network: Succeeded
UPnP: Not Available
NAT Type: Type 2
Connection Speed (Download)*: 3.5MBPS
Connection Speed (Upload)*: 353.3kbps

Everything there seems to be okay, I'm not sure what UPnP is so I'll go read up on that. I also just managed to sign in but was signed out again within 2 minutes, I made a note of the error code this time, it was: PSN 8002AD3D

Not sure what that means so I'll have to go and do a few searches. Grrr :(

I'm going to go and change the WPA key on my router, set up a DMZ and then see if that solves the issue, hopefully it will, I'll edit this post when I've done those things.

Right, I've set up a DMZ, it performed the above test but kept failing at the PSN stage, something to do with my sign in credentials apparently. I didn't think this was the case as several times I have signed in with those details and it has left me on for a few minutes before chucking me off. Anyway, it's now all working as it should be *fingers crossed*. One strange thing is that UPnP is set up in my router configuration page but on the PS3 its telling me it's not available.

If you are still having problems tonight we can play over the weekend :)

Sometimes the problems can be cause by the ISP, so it might be worth investigating that? A good old hard restart of the router may well sort it if you haven't tried that also?

Seems to be working alright now mate, so if you like we can still do those matches tonight. :)

I reset the router, changed my security key incase anyone was leeching off of it or something, set up a DMZ and then it seemed to work fine. :D
