Battlefield BC2 looking dam sweet

Nope. Only a few special games can do that.

Ah OK. I thought perhaps that any game available to buy on steam would be available to accept a valid CD key and add that game to your account. I think I will end up buying it on steam then, for the added simplicity of not only patching and no DVD like has already been mentioned, but also I can download as soon as its available and that will be faster than installing off a DVD.

How exactly is jan 28th "early" beta access when thats always been its start date with play.com getting it on the 26th

I woulda ordered from steam but the lack of preload (happens with most non valve games) means on release day its usually a mad scramble to get it dloaded, often at low speeds :(

But steam is releasing it on the 02/03/10 so they say, where as play.com claim it to be 05/03/10.

Sheet

Just realised this game doesnt support Windows XP.

Minimum:

OS: Windows XP
Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
Memory: 2GB
Graphics: 256 MB Video Card (GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900)
DirectX®: DirectX 9, 10, and 11 support
Hard Drive: 15 GB

Yeah but the 2nd is the american relese date, uk is the 5th. Steam usually sticks to the release schedules so it will be unlocked here on the 5th.

According to play they don't start the beta till the 28th like everybody else, they just send out the beta keys from the 26th.

Pre-Order from Play.com and receive a code to access the PC BETA before anyone else! The BETA is due to start on the 28th January 2010 (subject to change). Codes and instructions on how to access the BETA early will be emailed two days prior (currently 26th January) to the start of the BETA. Please note, pre-orders already taken will automatically receive a code.

Yeah but what I'm saying is, if you order it off steam I doubt they will stop you downloading the game files on the 2nd even if they wont unlock your key until the 5th, which means you have 3 days in which to download the game before you can play it anyway.

Doubt it, i remember dloading crysis warhead off steam, we only got access to the files on release day, no preload of any kind.

Oh, that is pretty lame indeed.

Would steam not let you just over-patch the BETA for the release? It's the same basic files so surely they wouldn't expect you to download the whole client again?

Aedus, if ea do it right itll require more than an overpatch if its a proper beta.

also thinking, you may get the code earlier from play, but the client will be downloaded from the beta page on official website. Which probably wont be early or unlocked early?

The beta for the ps3 was 900 odd meg, id expect the pc version to be similar in size, retail version will be much larger.

Steam normally let you download the game long before its released, well in my experience they have with l4d1,l4d2,borderlands etc
But the game will unlock at midnight on the release date,at least if play.com **** up the orders(arriving 1 or 2 days late) at least i know ill be able to play the minute its unlocked on steam
