How disappointing have you found the internet.

Just wondering what your opinion on the internet is. Our tutor was talking about this, and made some valid points.

Whilst there have been some great innovations and life changing moments, has the internet really been the "revolution" that it was hyped up to be?

I remember back in the 90's the future predictions etc.

Looking at today, I must confess that I find the internet rather boring in terms of fresh content, abd find my privacy being invaded more and more.

You can't be disappointed with the internet but you can be disappointed with what's ON the internet.

If the internet was taken away from us for just 1 day, the world would fall apart! FACT~!

It's a fantastic research tool, but at the same time it's a massive distraction. A bit like a library with a sexy pole dancer in the middle.

So many things are rendered easy now, by the internet.

Like finding a new rental flat - search Rightmove (or similar), hit "Request Viewing", wait for the calls to come in to book a viewing at your convenience. Tadaa.

Or, when I cooked my car engine - find one of the sites that emails breaker's yards with specifics of what you need (a whole engine in my case), compare prices and specs of the incoming emails and calls, place and order for delivery to your friendly mechanic.

Wikipedia - 'nuff said.

Finding and buying the music, books, films etc. that you want - no more trawling around all the shops being disappointed because they don't have it, or waiting for them to order it in at high expense.

Could go on forever... it's sort of mundanely useful, but isn't that the point? Use it as a utility to give you more time for the more exciting things in life :)

The really really big problem with the internet is it's anonymity.

It turns a lot of people into idiots -- whether they're on forums, in games, or anything else they can interact with.

If you were in real life playing cricket with a load of strangers one hot Sunday afternoon and one says 'OMG You failz fag learn to bat noob lolol' - and another one switched the ball so he's blatently cheating, you'd hit them with the bat, break their respective young noses, and they wouldn't do it again. It's called 'society'. On t'net we just have to put up with all the rubbish so the kiddies keep doing it and not learning a thing about respect.

First thing when I'm Prime Minister I'd ban is the anonymity of it all ..
