is EVE worth getting into now ?

i'm downloading now and am going to have a go at it see if i can get into it....

thought the download would be;

a) smaller 2.7GB :o
b) download faster.... only getting average of 4MB/sec!

anyone know how well it plays on an iMac?

he hasnt even scratched the surface either lol
when i started eve not long after it came out it took me 6 months to get in a battleship which was the daddy back then (cruisers were the top ship when i 1st played it lol) and anothe r2-3 months to be able to equip it enough to survive missions lol now you can do it in a fortnight

4mb/sec!!!!! on a very good day i get 500kb/sec its normally 100k dl speed

i used to play on my imac back in the day and it was ok, occasional crashes. But I think it;s pretty good nowadays, although depending on what card is in it it might slow down at times.

the speed is unimportant tbh i'm more curious about how it will run, but then again i'm sure it'll be scalable to run on just about anything

Avoid it IMO... I tried to get into it recently and despite playing with a corp that was setting up in WHS (which admittedly is fun) the game has several gameplay flaws where it does things that you just don't do with gameplay... the PvE portion is extremely boring and a massive grind to get any kinda real rewards, the same mission over and over with slightly different description and wallpaper and just when you think your getting somewhere the mission arc ends and your climbing back up from the bottom again. Theres no way to really get an overall feel for your place in the bigger game universe so it feels a bit disjointed.

Then you have the PvP where most of the time no matter how skillful you are or not your gonna get ganked over and over by people who've been playing 2+ years longer with massive amount of skill points and tech 2 or higher ships or faction load outs.

At the end of the day it is just a pretty face on a spreadsheet and is more of a chore to play except those very rare times you in a big evenly matched corp on corp fight.

There were two times I enjoyed playing the game:

1. Gate camping in low sec. Occasionally got a good fight out of it, but mostly it was just enjoying the feeling of having some isk in my pocket.
2. Annoying rival corp's in low sec in an inty.

The rest of it is as said above. I did join a corp allied to BoB once thinking I'd get some good PVP, but everyone was so sensitive about risking their pride and joy it never really seemed to work out. If I'd found somewhere I could potter about, make enough isk to replace the odd BC and plenty of people about to go up against in small fleet engagements I might still be playing. Never seemed to find that.

just played the tutorial lets see how much i use it over the next fortnight!

work usually gets in the way though.

i have to admit i just lost an hour and a half of my life!

This in-depth review holds no truth. :p

Dont need to say a lot more about it that has not already been said.
I like sci fi, I like sci fi games, I in depth resource management games.

Despite Eve being all of these, it is incredibly tedious and uninteresting.

It is as interesting as crack cocaine is to some people and not to others. Deserves a try if you like the sound of it, unlike crack ;)

The guys above are sort of right. EVE can be pretty boring, frustrating and tedious at times but then punctuated by moments of extreme awesomeness that is better than any other game out there.

Ganking a carrier with a small hac gang and escaping with the loot just as his backup arrives.
Or using my 4+ billion isk faction fit vindicator to bait an enemy gang, killed them all and warped out with 20% structure before my gang even arrived to help.
Or participating in the very first mothership kill (even though we lost the war and lost our station shortly afterwords).
Or (almost) lag free running battles for a whole weekend involving 500+ ships at a time.

It's why I keep coming back to EVE really.

Eve is a very good game, nothing else comes close to the stratergy and pure masiveness. 0.0 is where the game shines, low sec and wormholes can be fun and L4 missions are ok for a while but 0.0 is what the game was desgined for.

Once you get going and can fund your PVP, fly plenty of ships including a carrier to get the stuff out there it isn't that much effort and mainly pew pew.
