To come in 2010

If all goes well, the second generation Fermi architecture should be coming in late 2010. Since Fermi is Nvidia’s big transition that got delayed, it looks like Nvidia plans to have two new major generations in a single year. Traditionally the new chip comes in one year and roughly 12 months after the company is ready to launch faster version of the same chip, with more muscle.

We also learned that the mainstream Fermi won’t be significantly delayed from the original plan and we hope to see GF100-based GT300 single-chip card in March of this year.

By November Nvidia should be ready to announce its new architecture, but this time we only know that Fermi is the first step in new architecture development that should stay with us for a few years. G92 foundations lasted almost three years and we expect that Fermi and future Fermi chips in next few years to feature the same fundamental design.

After all this is what ATI and Nvidia have been doing for quite some time now. If Nvidia doesn't push second generation Fermi to a later date, you should see these chips by Q4 2010.

Yeah, because that isn't already a significant delay at all.

Non story we all know both nvidia and ati are currently working on their next gen cards but it would be news for nvidia to release fermi.

I don't get it. Seems to be that both Ati and Nvidia appear to have issues with every second generation of new card (true new tech), yet every time they do the fan boys and doom sayers start harping on about how the company is going down the tubes; it's boring.
As long as they keep playing leap frog with each other, the customer will see faster and cheaper cards...good enough for me.

Hmmm. Do I wait for Fermi in 2010, Fermi 2 in 2011, or the Mayans coming back through the Stargate to wipe us all out in 2012?

Get the first gen out before you harp on about the next gen. No one will wait that long for a second gen so why wait for the first gen. Great marketing strategy.

Well seems like 2010 will be a very interesting year assuming we don't have any more problems with tsmc's 28nm process technology. That means that hopefully we shall see 3 new generations of cards in 9 months. Very interested to see what ATI and Nvidia will provide by the end of the year since l am planning to upgrade at that time.

Not sure how to take that, maybe its just a page filler.

"If all goes well"

"We also learned that the mainstream Fermi won’t be significantly delayed from the original plan"

What was the original plan ? it was Christmas wasn't it ?

Original plan has always been "March" (end of Q1 2010) for high end and mainstream soon after... since goodness knows when...

IF they can get the GF100 onto a successful sub 40nm process it would massively open up the possibilities.

Its not delayed - there isn't much point if they do manage a sucessful move to sub 40nm but theres no guarantees there.

I just wish they'd hurry up and release something that's going to contend with ATi's current lineup..

I can't believe that they are still charging £400+ for the GTX295, who in their right minds is going to pay this for old tech?!?

So they're raping the first gen Fermi from both ends now?

It's late as hell and now they're saying there's going to be a better version along in a short time anyway :/
