Test drove an E46 330i Sport

I picked it up yesterday, done a few miles in it so far and I'm very happy. :)

I'm making a list of thinks I want to sort/change.

There is no centre arm rest, I would like to add one if possible.
The gear knob is aluminium and a bit worn, I need a nice replacement (leather?)

The gear lever doesn't always return to the centre position when in neutral, any idea what could cause this?

I think I need to rip off Fox's sig too, that's the done thing round here right? :p

Any help on the above would be great.

You need the short leather gear nob from a 330i ZHP/E60 M Sport, its the best bar none for the E46. Well worth the 47 quid at your local dealer.

My gearbox had the same fault. BMW replaced the entire transmission under warranty to fix it but I suspect an indy could have replaced the return spring or something.

Sounds nice, any pics or part number?

I hear the stock one will just pull off but may require some force, is that right?

Thanks

Looks like this:

Thats not it, no. I'll get you a part number this evening - BMW will want £47 for it. It's nicely weighted as well - seriously, dont buy any other shifter :p

Sytner in Cov ****ed me off royal, the service there was terrible! Also, they scratched my paintwork (only a small scratch... but still!) and wouldn't do anything about it claiming "We do about 40 cars a day and never scratched any so we can't see how we scratched yours" even though there was no scratch when I dropped it off yet there was a scratch when I picked it up... hmm...

Another thing, do not pay for their smart chip repair, Michael J Fox could do a better/cleaner job.

Just a quick off topic question for you fox if you don't mind:
(didn't feel it required it's own thread)

Whilst transporting drunken friends one of them took out and unfolded up my completely untouched BMW medical kit from underneath the passenger seat, and now I can't seem to fold it back up properly to fit in and close the compartment...

I also have a sneaky suspicion that it could be the latch of the compartment itself which could be loose causing it to not shut tightly.

Do you know or have any pictures of the layout of the contents so I can try to fit it back in properly? Or if I go for the lazy option, how expensive would it be to replace the package and/or compartment itself?

Errr I've no idea how it folds in, I can take a pic of mine?

That would be much appreciated thanks Fox but don't go to any extra effort or anything. I've tried for almost 2 hours trying to find a layout to get it back in but no luck :(

Fear not Fox, I ordered the one from BMW, I asked for the E60 M Sport leather one, it should be here Wednesday.

My dad has had it on the ramp today. It might need a bush and anti roll bar drop link but everything else is fine.

I want to get a full valet done on it too.

The tyres that are on it are awful, nasty budget crap, I don't know if it's just me (first rwd car) but it's lethal in the wet, I'll take it easy ;)

Be very careful when removing the old gearknob, especially if you like your front teeth. It suddenly flies off and many a person has whacked themselves in the face. :D

With regards to centre armrests - there are a few on ebay.

If you don't know a good service already there's a good detailer in Hinckley called attention 2 detail or something like that, will try and dig up a contact number for you when I get home.

EDIT: Awesome! Cheers mrk, I will give it a go when I get home, thanks a bunch :D

Slightly off topic...

Part number would be ideal for me too :)
