out of pure curiosity...

we're discussing why you should avoid ferraris. its not hijacked given your desire above to own one ;)

even at 30k, its still lottery winners or captains of industry only.

Twenty bag of sand? Either a car-craft Clio or a little Lotus. :)

Although as it would be for travelling 10k, i'd perhaps go for something a touch more refined moving towards Firestars suggestion of a spot of Pork with the GT3 kit.

I'd prolly have a squint at the VXR500.

25k gets interesting though:

CSL, B7 RS4, etc.

I think you'd be mad to drop 20k on a B5, imo. 4k gets you an S4 which looks almost the same with pretty much the same performance, post remap.

0 - 60 in 4.6 seconds and 184mph top speed, quicker than almost all newer cars listed in this thread, actually has a quicker car been posted? I don't think the TVR will do the same top speed, plus it will fall apart anyways.

Arhh the SL60 AMG I mentioned will do 0-60 in around 5 seconds, but it will do 185 with the limiter removed. No idea what the Alpina B12 can do without being limited, I should imagine it could do around that sort of speed too. They aren't new cars though that's for sure, good old '90s cars.

Alpina B12 (E38 V12 loveliness)

Whilst I agree entirely about your choice, I'm not so sure about the running costs.

Some of the Alpina specific parts for the B12 are extremely expensive....

Then again, there seems to be no set budget in this thread, so what the Hell? :D
