Red Dwarf: Series 10

I am somewhat dubious about this. I have this feeling that no matter what feedback they get, it will be weird CGI, no laughter [real or canned], bad story and not very funny jokes.

They definitely need both the original writers in on this if they expect it to be any good. And they have to have the cheap sets built out of cardboard, papier mache and old milk crates!

Oh and [from my hazy memory]:

Rimmer: "Switch to Red Alert!"
Kryten: "Sir, are you absolutely certain. It would mean changing the bulb."

or

*after using Kryten as a battering ram*

Lister: "You OK, Kryters?"
Kryten: "I'm fine, thank you, Susan"

:D

The problem with Back to Earth is half the jokes and good bits made no sense unless you had watched Blade Runner. Go watch Blade Runner then right away watch Back to Earth. You well get a whole new view on Back to Earth as many scenes from Back to Earth are copies of scenes from Blade Runner.

Listened to that the other day! I have the book but I'm far too lazy to read it :p

Looking forward to the new series, don't really care if it doesn't live up to the early series, it doesn't take away from them in any way and it'll certainly be better than most of the sit coms on tv at the moment (with a few exceptions).

Surely this is only part of the book? I had the audio book and personally thought it was excellent!

In my opinion, the problem with back to earth was that a) we were missing half of the writing talent, and it really shows, things were missing from the formula that made the first 7 series of RD so great and b) they feel they have to update it.

They don't seem to get that, unlike something like Doctor Who, the charm of RD post series 8 was the total lack of CGI. Hell, my cousin got into the set and scene making industry almost purely based on his love of RD! We all knew it was all hokey, things wobbled about, but that was funny. A skutter that had a wobbly head because it was clearly a polystyrene body placed on a remote control car was much much funnier than a very obviousely fake CGI one.

The audience laughter I can live without, the extended version of Tikka to Ride from series 7 has no laughter but its funnier than the original. What they are also missing is ambient music. There used to be between scene music. It was very subtle and you forgot it was there, but it joined it all up, made it feel less disjointed.

Having said all that, this is what they really need to do to bring RD back to its former glory:

1) Get both writers onboard (good luck with that..)
2) Bring back the live audience (it changes the whole timing of the show and the delivery of the lines
3) Get rid of the CGI stuff and bring back the terrible sets, there are loads of set designers out there nearly out of work, they'll be cheap!

Aside from the that, the basic premise of red dwarf is still very sound and could have loads of life left in it.

Anybody even remotely interested in Sci-Fi who hasn't seen Blade Runner needs to gtfo. Seriously, i must have been eight when my dad sat me down in front of it ;)

Back to earth was dire donkey ****e most likely due to Coronation Street:(, fingers crossed series 10 is nothing like it, oh and canned laughter is a must!

Bit late to thread but i want to be excited but after back to earth i cant be as they messed that up so much =(

I dont want some nice polished fake sets like in back to earth shooting it all on a green background = fail

What i want is silly props and gritty looking like the old dwarf! + Funnier jokes i know this is personal taste but back to earth was just mainly meh other than the odd line.
