We all have exhaust notes we like, the V8 growl of an american supercar, the howling Toyota Supercharged engine in the Exige S, the Subaru Burble, The Ferrari V12, the Lamborghinia V10, which for you is the SINGLE greatest exhaust note of all time ?

I tried to choose one, but just couldnt find one that i rate above all else...
 
the most 'distinctive' noise i would have to say is the suburu with the boxer 4 lump.

for me though i'd say any motor with a supercharger. not the most powerful way (a turbo makes more peak power but it is more usable) but it wails like a banshee when being revved. :D
 
Well in general I love the burble and thunder of the old V8 muscle cars, I certainly like a low and thunderous note more than I do the Ferrari howl or the Alfa V6 warble, as nice as they are mind, it’s just my preference. I'm not sure if I can give you a definitive greatest of all time though, there are many to choose from with such subtle differences.

I love the sound of the old American big block V8s though, somewhat like this 1968 Dodge Coronet, but the 1969 Camaro SS, the Plymouth Road Runner, Corvette Stingray ...take your pick really.

The Pagani Zonda has a lovely noise too, quite different too the muscle cars I love, but really nice in it's own right.
