Ok, just had a gift of a sapphire 5870, and was wondering if crossfire 5870's have any issue's or problems before i make the purchase?

i know x fire will offer faster frame rates, but at what cost of issue's?

I just got a 5870 too and tbh it runs everything on max settings (crysis on high + 4xAA) at 5040x1050 so if i were u i would give it a whirl before buying a second, u may find there is no need for it yet and u could just get it in 6-12 months time when the prices drop ;)

At the moment with current games a single 5870 will fly. I would wait a while and when prices go down get another. Crossfire 5870 will be amazing performance. What resolution are you gaming at?

Edit:Crossfire profiles are being vastly improved and most new games run in Crossfire without issues.

xfire 5870s are great! do it!

you need about 900w of psu for one with an i7 though as i found out the hard way

not sure what creeds set up is or if mine is really bad but with those crysis settings at 2048x1152 im getting between a min fps of about 49-52

dirt2 is where it starts to stuggle though dx11 rendering takes a big chunk out of the 5870's

i did have a few issues with my xfire but i think it might have been limited to me was just really bad tearing where about 50% of the screen would not display anything but a solid colour rest of the screen would render and play fine seemed to be fixed by setting the screen res the same as the bench/game or visa versa

game at 1920 X 1200 so no point then? single card is all you need. any issues with crossfire?

At this point no. As mentioned current crop of games work flawlessly with a single 5870. Save your money and maybe even think about a second monitor along with another 5870 when prices are lower.

Issues are being corrected with crossfire setups. They are far better than 1-2 years ago and ATI are going to improve on crossfire profiles in upcoming updates.

Eh?
My Hiper 880W runs my i7 @ 4Ghz with 2 5870's and a 8600GT (physx).

Back on to the thread question,

I have found the Xfire 5870's work great with Dirt II, Modern Warfare 2 and recently, Mass Effect 2.
:)

i defineatly think 2x5870s are a great idea!! i own 2 and it certainly isnt for the bragging rights, its for my own gameing satisfaction xD 1920x1200!! oh and and pulling crysis maxed out with 4xAA at 54fps :P so just imagine what its doin for other games?
