Just somthing ive been thinking about.

I eat a lot of crap, a lot of snacks etc , and i find that im often quite tired, not lazy at all however somtimes i struggle to keep from shutting off at work.

Im thinking it may be down to what im eating , however it is so difficult to eat healthy food and costs a fortune.

Anybody care to offer some guideance.

I'm not sure general healthy eating tips need to be relegated to sports arena, although I know there are some very knowledgeable nutrition bods in there

Your diet will have an impact on your energy levels, alertness and tiredness, yes.

It's really not difficult to eat healthily and it doesn't cost a fortune. Have you tried it or is this just your perception? I'm not knocking you - I'm curious.

What do you eat at the moment? Give us a typical a day.

Typical weekday.

get up in the morning
glass of orange squash
couple of ham cobs for lunch
2 packs of crisps,
choc muffin
can of coke
mini roll or somthing along them lines.

Dinner
chicken cobs/rice/ tuna mayo (one of these)

Few more cans of coke in the day.

I know its not good, ive attempted eating healthy but i guess to much of anything is bad for you.

Just happen to be eating my 10'o'clock snack, normally would be a choc bar or crisps.

Today: Homous, carrot & pita bread...actually quite enjoying it!

I'd try having breakfast, toast or cereal or yoghurt /fruit..

Change a bag of crisps to some fruit... Add a bit of salad maybe to the ham rolls..??

Drop the cans of coke, or at least lower it to maybe one a day and try water or sugar free orange juice...

Just a few small changes you can easily make...

You can eat what you like in moderation... Breakfast is the key... Yoghurt and fruit are good, so is eggs on toast??

Healthy food is way cheaper if you know what you're doing. Try something like this:

Get up in the morning, glass of water and a couple of oranges.
Lunch, ham salad and toasted rye bread. Orange juice, or water to drink. Or homemade soup instead of salad?
Dinner: steamed fish with boiled potatos and peas. Or perhaps served with rice and peas.

Snacking - celery, carrot sticks, fruit etc.

Relatively cheap healthy diet.

i rarely have breakfast, for some reason the last thing i can think of doing in the morning is eating. It just seems to go against me.

Im not a huge veg fan, carrots are cool though, cant eat potoatos.

I will relook at my lunch for work, and see if i can get that a bit healthier.

Even now im sat snacking on crisps. i think the problem is i dont pile any weight on at all, at at 5ft9 and just over 10 stone its hard to worry.

Eating whole foods is a good practice i.e. rice, meat, oats, fruit, veg, etc. Try and keep the processed stuff to a minimum and drink more water.

Even though you aren't putting on weight it won't be doing your body any favours. You may have quite a lot of fat inside your body which you can't see.

Cans of Coke are a bugger to give up. I used to have them on the way to work in the morning and I'd be crashing by 1 or 2.

Try dropping stuff one at a time, try carrying round a bottle of water or ice cold fresh skimmed milk seems to hit the spot aswell.

I tend not to take change to work now otherwise I end up having 3 or 4 cans.

Your diet probably isn't helping.

I'm quite skinny and changes in my diet affect me quite a lot, from mood swings to fatigue. I try and keep a basic minimum health level and when I let it slip, like over the past couple of weeks, I notice it takes a toll on my health and energy levels.

Your diet is quite heavy in carbs and sugar and not in much of anything else. This will make you sluggish.

I try and put vegetables in my food rather than eat them by themselves. For example a tuna mayonnaise roll or wrap becomes tuna sweetcorn mayo with some lettuce or watercress. Or chopped red pepper. It's a good way of getting in a base level of veggies without forcing yourself and you can up the quantities when you're ready.

You like juice by the sound of it. Swap some of the cola for juice or a smoothie.

I can't eat fruit regularly. I only eat it occasionally when I get a craving. Otherwise, forcing myself to eat it puts me off. Same with breakfast.

Same here. I don't get hungry until about 9am and forcing myself to eat something just makes me feel sick.

I find that I do crave fresh veg - but I'm not a big fan of cooked vegetables - unless they're roasted root veg or something, I tend to find them quite boring.

One big misconception is that salads are also boring - nope!

Get a big deep dish, shove in:
* lettuce, thinly sliced onion, tomatoes, mushrooms
For the more adventurous, add:
* chopped up pickled jalapenos, pickled onions, capers, olives - things with tang!

Add cooked chicken, or tuna, or mackerel, or some other nice protein.

Salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinegar (yum)!

If you want an interesting dressing, mix the oil & vinegar up together in a glass first, with some of the following (take your pick):
* herbs, garlic, honey, wholegrain mustard, tabasco (if you're a little odd like me), lemon/lime juice, tomato puree - ummm... Gosh I throw all kinds of stuff into my dressings, whatever I have a taste for. Pour it on liberally.

IMO the dressing /makes/ the salad. NOM.

Take meat out of your diet, you'll feel better.(and replace it with other sources of protein)

Oh, and stop drinking Coke. Avoid Crisps, too.

I don't see how people find it so hard to stop drinking fizzy drinks.

4 years ago I said enough is enough, gave up all fizzy drinks and caffiene. Only done me a world of good.

In june 09 I decided to sort my diet.

Breakfast is oats and a pint of water, I then eat every 2 hours. Doesn't mean it's massive meals, I have snacks everything.

Just slowly replace crisps with fruit, nuts and yogurt.

Also Sara is dead on about salad! I love a good salad, makes my day of noms even better.

Once your diet gets better you'll notice you'll feel better, have more energy and sleep a lot better aswell.

Not to mention giving your body everything it really wants and needs.
