........... I'd have me one of these (when they're released) coupled with 2 of the 6 core Xeons due out later this year and 7 GPUs

Unfortunately, unless my 6 numbers come up, it will remain a dream

PS: I know it'd be ridiculously expensive and appalling ppd/£ but, as a single cruncher, it'd be damn hard to beat. 7 GPU clients + bigadv running on 24 overclocked virtual cores

I thing the second rig is better - duel slots gpu for the win.
but both are silly money - dekez's shed project is sooooo much better.
you could have 4 shed folders for 64k ppd and still have change for the first build cost

The shed folder has been great for me so far, it's very stable now (touch wood). I restart it every now and then to update windows, and I check whenever I pop out to the shed that nothing is living in it, but that's all, very low maintainence.

If I didn't have to pay for leccy I would probably end up filling my shed with 8800GSs!

I am tempted though once fermi comes out and the price of the GTX260 drops to replace the GSs with 260s

That's pretty good for 500w. You'd certainly notice it on your bill, but not bad for the points if you could afford it.
