Hi ...

... lots of posts about how good the Q6600 is , but i have just upgraded to a AMD Phenom II X4 965 from a Q6600 and all i can say that this totally blows the Q6600 away.

Much faster , massive FPS increase in games and i'm really impressed.

I considered Intel i7/i5 but i thought they were far to expensive , which i why after about 2 years i have gone back to AMD.

Was the Q6600 overclocked? If you had a Q6600 at 3.2-3.4GHz then a Phenom II X4 965 isn't much of an upgrade if you consider how much you have to pay for the RAM, mobo and CPU.

Had it clocked at 3.0Ghz ..... and the 965 is much much faster ......

thinking of doing this myself albeit getting the 3.8gig 955 bundle. glad your seeing gains and am3 seeming to have a future upgrade path and all.

Lol, I am loving after just pointing my finger at the top range amd cpu and getting the black edition low power 965 so many threads are sinigng its praise.
Nodiggidy123 the 965 is worth the extra really I have no doubt- faster, lower power, less heat, more refined chip for £25, ask OC if they will upgrade the bundle.

While the 965 BE is a nice step up from a q6600, its only marginally "better" than an "old tech" q9550? did you have to get just a mobo or RAM too? as you could have just chucked one of those in.
Wouldn't have had the same feeling as a new build but would have cost lots less for similar performance surely?:o

playing on game settings my old Q6600 could only dream of ... best upgrade i have ever done ......

Similar to above, slightly off topic but seems an odd upgrade path. Were you on a 775 mobo before? As a q9550 would have been a cheaper (only cpu to change) and faster clock for clock upgrade

Have you just got the 5850 along with the Phenom? If you had the 5850 with the Q6600 i can't see how you reckon it's such a massive upgrade because the Q6600 is still a fantastic cpu, especially when overclocked.

Yes i had the Q6600 with th HD5850 ... maybe it's my DDR3 upgrade ..... example with Modern Warfare 2 on my new system playing at 1920 x 1080 and everything on max i get about 110 - 120 FPS .... with the Q6600 and DDR2 on exactly the same settings the graphics were very jerky and i got around 30 - 35 FPS .....

"Marginally Better" - who told you this .... it is much faster.... playing on game settings my old Q6600 could only dream of ... best upgrade i have ever done ......

Nobody, I just looked Here and it looked like it was only marginally better, not exactly night and day especially when you consider the upgrade cost.

If your happy then thats all that matters, hopefully it's worth others considering though. :)

Probably because you were ruuning a tiny clock on the Q6600

3ghz is a lame speed for a Q6600

You should have saved your money and overclocked the Q6600 more :p

You haven't upgraded BTW

You have side graded
