Today, Russia test flew the Sukhoi T50 which is an advanced stealth fighter designed to replace the MiG 29 and SU-27 and is seemingly designed as an answer to the US Raptor.

Do any of our aviation fans here believe that the F22 Raptor may lose its place as the ultimate superiority fighter ?

I'm not too up to speed on what weaponry the russians are throwing around but the american missiles are a large part of what gives the F22 its lethality at long range.

Well the T50 has only had its first maiden flight and testing is still heavily underway.

The raptor has been flying for a fair few years now and is due to enter service (if not in service) soon. By the time the T50 is in service im sure the USAF will have something even better in development.

I believe the F35 to be superior than both the T50 and the raptor due to its multi role ability.

Awesome, I love Sukhoi's
I'll be interested to read reports on its development now that its taken its first maiden flight. Love the rivalry between Sukhoi and western aerospace companies.

Then again, the Ruskies have made a habit of this - the Su-25 'Frogfoot' bears a distinct resemblance to the Northrop YA-9A, the losing competitor to the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

I doubt it. America is so advanced now. Not just on hardware but the software to go with it and the communication between all units. Although I know nothing on the Russian systems.

Also on future weapons, I missed most of it, but they Americas where research or testing lasers that can fit on fighter jets. How far is this research?

Does Russia have any laser systems? the portable laser system in conjunction with Israel has already passed initial tests and should be released in a couple of years.

I don't believe so. The initial number ordered has been drastically reduced but i don't think the programe has been cancelled and the USAF will take delivery of some.

Hasn't it pretty much been proved that the Eurofighter Typhoon is more manoeuvrable and generally better than the F22 anyway?
