5970 Flickering is it fubar?

:mad:As some of you may know I purchased a 5970 recently and I was wondering if it was 2nd hand as it wasnt shrink wrapped.

Ive been since waiting for my 24inch monitor back from the same company which was also faulty, it finally came yesterday and Ive since be able to test the 5970 properly.

The first test was Badcompany 2 beta, I had flickering sea and rifle graphics, I thought this was down to the beta.

Ive just tired Settlers 7 beta, and the same problem with certain trees.

I had also tired anno and all grass has just turned to a textureless black.

However COD4/Unigine benchmark and Vantage all work fine.

I am using the lastest 10.1 drivers, is it my card or something else?

In before influx of Nvidia > ATI BS.

It looks like you're not the only person who's having trouble with ATI cards in Settlers 7, can't comment on BadCompany 2 though but if it's beta too then it could be the same sort of thing. If it's only betas that are being weird then I would wait for the bugs to be smoothed out before panicking.
 
Have you tried installing/rolling back the 9.12's?

Some people are having trouble with the 10's. Seems to be not worth the download.

I will try and find the link i saw about it.

I dont think it would be your card if you have no issues on the COD4/Unigine Benchmark.

What are your system specs? PSU? OS?

They're driver / game issues. I know the black texture problems in Settlers 7 also occur with nVidia cards. Anno 1404 has a problem with certain textures (water rock faces), causes stuttering. Not a hardware problem.
 
I doubt it's your card. I get the same. I use two monitors and i get flickering on my second monitor...my 5970 is a sapphire OC...I've taken it back to stock 725 and 1000 and now it has stopped.

Think its cause its a beta mine the same flickering trees with 5970. If other apps are ok i wouldn`t worry to much

What you can do is use the Radion bios editor and set the 2d ram speed to 1200mhz, this should prevent any flicker. Keep the GPU speed at 157mhz as this does not cause the flickering.
You should notice your card runs even cooler at idle.

On a side note when I complained to Sapphire about my flickering issue they provided me with a bios that solved the issue but also prevented overclocking, I discovered.

If you ever have any problem with the card in the future, simply download and load your old bios back on.
 
Great as long as some of you with the same card are having the same problems thats a load off my mind :p

Dunno about flashing the bios sound pritty scary stuff, plus I like to overclock and overvolt a little.

Hopefully the Betas of BC2 and settlers 7 will have these problem fixed before release.

What sort of performance are you getting with BFBC2?

It only invalidates your warranty if you break it via a bad flash, although generally it's very easy to fix a bad bios flash if you've got another graphics card and a motherboard with 2 PCI-E x16 lanes.

They only claim it invalidates your warranty to cover people breaking their cards and claiming the card was faulty.

LOL, I like to overclock and overvolt my £500+ card but I'm scared to flash the bios.:confused:

Same here at first, but then curiosity overcame my fear, and I haven't looked back since. I'v now flashed my card about 10x with different little tweaks (Mainly power saving/Overclocking).

In your case there probably isn't much need to overclock, so also no need to edit the bios.
