The thing is though, even if this is right it doesn't show the 5970, which will probably be in the same price range (if not far less).

Perhaps when the GTX395 (GTX380x2) is released a more realistic comparison will be made. (You are going to have to wait though ! 2010/Q3 perhaps).
If the GTX380 uses 300w then we won't be seeing a GTX395 at all.

If it uses 300w I'll get 2 as a graphics card that needs 300w must be fast ...!
Power consumption doesn't = fast it simply = power consumption.
Cars that guzzle petrol aren't automatically fast.
Some are though.

Each quarter turn overclocks the core by 1 Mhz.
Isnt the 5970 a dual gpu on a card solution, if so, a single GF100 would be against the 5870.. Of course Nvidia can still have crazy pricing and pricewise be V the 5970.

Anyway just to keep you performance hungry Nvidia fan's hanging on, check out what a 'thumbs up' Nvidia PR man sent me, with a brief message stating "this is Fermi".
Fanboys on either side should hope that Fermi is a success. If it beats the 58/59xx series cards it will result in price reductions for ATI's big hitters. Even NVidia are not stupid enough to price their new cards completely out of the market.
Their flagship "GTX280 equivelent" may well cost top dollar, but there will no doubt be cut-down "GTX260 equivelent" to compete with the 58xx's at a reasonable price. After taking so long to rollout, Fermi should definately be faster in most scenarios.

I want FERMI to be successful, I don't like nVidia for things that nVidia have done (nothing to do with me having an irrational like for ATi
).There's nothing wrong with making jokes about it though.
The people who take the jokes too seriously are usually the first to call other people fanboys despite the fact that they can't take a joke about a graphics card.
Really, who are the real fanboys there?
