My clan mate is feeling the lag on BF:BC2 beta. I know it's a beta but his current system is really bad, penttium dual core, 2 gb ram.

He already has a GTX250 and a decent PSU, he already owns Win7.

I had specced him:

AMD PII 955 - £120
Asus 785G - £58
4 GB DDR3 GeiL - £88
Asus 300 case - £42

He pretty much will solely be playing BF:BC2 for the next 2 odd years :)

He is running a 19" monitor, I assume its 1440 x 900? He doesn't know lol.

He will not be overclocking and will use the stock cooler, AMD or Intel doesn't matter.

Be careful when you get the motherboard and make sure you get one which takes DDR3 and not DDR2.

I assume you are looking at the Asus M4A785-M?? This uses DDR2.

Edit!! Realised it is the Asus M4A78LT-M LE which uses DDR3!! Sorry!!

I would look at the DDR3 version of the MSI 770-C45:

If you want a decent motherboard with 785G integrated graphics I would go with the Asus M4A785TD-V Evo:

Is BC2 multi threaded?

If it's not then get an X2 550 or the newer 555 (might unlock to a quad anyway and will clock just as well as the 955 if he ever decides to)

That saves about £50 from your budget. New total spent £260... which leaves us £90 to play with.

You could sell the 250 for ~£50-60 irrc and get a 5770 for DX11 which at that res it should handle just fine.

I looked at this, but this guy aint gonna be overclocking and if the cores don't unlock then he stuck on dual core, he needs a decent cpu to last him 3-5 years for gaming.

EDIT: good call on the MSI 770-C45, looks ideal. Cheaper too!

I'd change the motherboard to an MSI 770-G45. Call me pedantic but i don't like having the onboard GPU if you're not using it, pointless space lost and power/heat used. And the 2 PCI-e slots might come in handy later on.
