TV Licence rip off...

I'm going to have my lawyer send letters to every member here demanding payment for the privilege of reading my posts.

Just don't pay, god it's not as if the bbc are going to sent anyone around to check, they'll just send some threatening spam letters.

so what if the OP has a plasma, uses say tv catch up . com to watch tv online, which the dirty lil tv licence men/women cant detect, would they try and rustle him saying that as you have a tv you must buy a tv licence even if there is no aerial, or in some cases ( prob very unlikely ) having a tv that does not have a tuner embedded?

Is there a contract when buying a tv or maybe an agreement that when you BUY your tv you MUST by law buy a tv licence to go with it even if you just wanted to use it as a wall hanging for a fireplace dvd or fish tank or suchwat?

I think ive heard of that somewhere before?

You only have to pay tv license (it's actually classified as a TAX) if you watch or record LIVE broadcast.

If you ONLY use it as a monitor, for dvds or for online catch up services you do NOT need a license.

Having a tuner or not makes no difference at all.

So basically the OP is wrong?
yes you basically pay 6 months in advanced if you pay by direct debit.

so sorry for being a muppet , so if hes paying "6 months in advance" hes paying up to next october/november in 6 monthly payments of £23.75? or not as the case might be :=o

yep first 6months will be at £23 and then it will switch to £11 a month, so you always stay ahead.
If you don't want to do it like this you can decide to pay in other ways.

Just ask to pay weekly then you can stop if you don't want it any more. You get a card and pay at a local shop Pay Point.

Not needed a licence for a few years now, nowt on tv i cant see online so its kinda useless. Plus saving 140 a year (tho thought it was 127 a year?) is always nice. :)

i just paid my first ever TV license fee. absolute rip off!!

i do like the BBCs content, but £142.50! its just not on. i would even be happy with maybe £100. but no, we are being ripped off to pay inflated wages to a load of managers and on screen 'talent' who sit around living the good life.

they just sent me a cheque for £40!!!??? god knows what for. Im going to pay it in quick!

sent me one last year

Mine runs May 22nd to May 21st or so... Calender years, just the pricing for each year is redetermined in April or so. I don't think it is too bad an expense, certainly isn't cheap but I do tend to listen to radio2 when driving, at work and on the return journey, and althought I watch very little TV and avoid soaps, when I do watch TV it is often on BBC.

I just wish they'd fire fatty Moyles and save money, glad Ross is going, I don't care if he goes to ITV or to SKY for more money, it won't affect me in the slightest. I can still watch him over there, just won't be my licence fee paying the slobber.

I think the only live program on bbc is the news and the one show. Everything else seems to be repeats.

Just because it's not live doesn't mean it's a repeat!

Those moaning about the price also need to remember it funds all the BBC radio stations without which radio outside London would effectively be dead.
