350Z Good Idea?

GET A DIESEL and as lo as cc as poss!!!!!!!!!!

I dont want to pay any more friggin money to council as poss!

Errr the per mile expenses rate is the same regardless of how much he spends on fuel, it only changes based on arbitary engine size criteria, so whether he drives around in a Focus 1.8 TDCi or a Ferrari 599 GTB he gets the same expense rate

Putting more exclaimation marks doesnt make it true.

S2000's look really nice, but I'd want 4 or 5 seats. Plus I work in IT across dozens of sites in the city so I often need space to chuck PCs in the boot/back seats.

Integras are also very nice, but a tad older than what I'm after.

I warned you I was picky :D

I can fit HP DL servers in the boot of my S2000 :p

Well it's just that I don't know exactly what I can afford to run. I'm only 23, still at home, earning about £17k annually. Basically I want something flashy and a bit faster. I really like the likes of the RX8 and 350Z but I fear I'm setting my sights too high.

Trouble is, I don't know cars that well, nor what's out there to chose from.

Ideally, it needs to be around 200bhp, coupe, 4 seats and not stupidly expensive to run. If I'm going to spend £10k on a car, I want it to be farely new, no older than 5 years with no more than ~40k miles. I just want it to feel new, not 3rd or 4th hand etc.

Mk4 Astra Coupe turbo.

200BHP. Doesn't look too bad (for a Vauxhall - grown) Better MPG than a 3.5l 6pot, loads of boot space and usable rear seats. Inexpensive running/servicing etc.

Slightly outside your criteria (milage, age) but worth suggesting IMHO.

Rather than big up the 350z, I think based on your requirements and posts so far...that you should close the door on this idea.

I am going to throw this idea out there, as I think it will be practical, within budget, cheaper to run and a bit special.

You're quite right here. £11k is spot-on money for a DC5 that is 5 years old with 40k on the clock. It has 4 seats (I comfortably took 4 adults on holiday Cornwall and back in it) and has ample boot space. It runs > 200bhp, it handles well and is pretty damn rare.

If we're image pimping, then here's mine! http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8895/img2632f.jpg

Feel free to image pimp, infact I encourage it! I'm after ideas.

Can't say I'm too keen on the Integras though. Don't hate me!

I've considered them, and even drove from Newcastle to Leeds to view one.

However, they all have high mileage generally and I already have a mk4 astra so I want something flashier and different...

Can't say I like that style of car. Never really liked subs or evos to be honest.

I am leaning ine the 350Z direction still. Petrol isnt really a big deal as I get it paid for through work (well most of it) but I need to consider servicing and maintenance costs as I only get about £1100 a month, which has to cover rent and phone bills etc

I went from a 1.6 diesel focus to a focus st and if im honest the difference in power didnt feel massive, even though it was over twice the bhp (90-110 to 225).

Running cost wise the only major difference was fuel, down from 45+ mpg to high teens low twenties, if you can afford to buy a 350Z GET ONE you will love it.

Thanks :)

That's the thing, I don't know enough about this type of car to judge whether or not I can afford one. I'm hoping people can kind of sumarise a typical monthly cost. Mine will hopefully be lower than average as I don't even do 8000 miles a year and at least half are paid for by work.

So it's really just the insurance and finance that would cost me ~£250 a month

Might not really be a comparison but I had mine for a year, it was 18 months old when I got it and kept it for a little over a year, the only thing i bought for it were two new tyres which cost about £100 each other than that there were no costs, i think the servicing is between £200-300 depending on which one it is, as far as any parts Ive no idea on the costs as i never needed any, are you planning to buy from a dealer?

Yeah something on a car like that you dont skimp on, but that was probably 3 years ago now and they were the fronts which were considerably cheaper, ive no idea what exact size they were but in comparison to the 18's on the 330ci they were a lot cheaper

just checked on mytyres there around £130 now so i guess that would be about right when i changed them 225/45/18 and the rears are only £6 more??? 245/45/18

Good to hear, thankfully not so costly like an RX8.

I'm not sure to be honest. Going private I have the option to know the owner and get a better judgement as to how the cars been treat. But then I don't like the idea of handing over £10k to a complete stranger.

OTOH, garages often offer some form of warranty or cool off, but then prices tend to be a good £1000 higher and the dealer is more like going to lie just to get rid of the car and make a sale.

Hmmm decisions...
