Anybody put on weight while they've been at uni?......

Yes, I got fat(ter) in my first year of uni:p

Before you realise it, you have put on a stone or two from booze and takeaways.

At 18, you think that you are immune to drink and takeaways (IE they won't have much effect on you).

I dropped from 12.7 stone to 12stone dead in my first few weeks. 2 and a bit years hard lifting and good diet saw me finish my bulk at 14 stone just before X-mas. Though that's muscle not beer gut.

I know loads of people who have put on weight. I also know loads that are out every night drinking and their figures don't seem effected by it.

I'd rather keep myself fit, healthy and focused (which is what I'm here for) than spend my time hanging out of my arse so to speak.

I do go out on special occasions. I just don't go out for the sake of it as you end up having wasted £30 on a mediocre night. I drink in moderation too, unless it's my birthday! wooo :p

Mine fluxuates to be honest, first and 2nd year I didn't put any on. 3rd I was on placement sat on my bum doing nothing much and eating...I put on weight, but lost it again in the 2-3 months I had off between placement and uni. Whenever I go home I lose weight as I eat a lot less and am always much more active.

Lately this year I've put on some weight, due to once again being sat on my bum doing not much, but eating a lot less too. Need to exercise but also need to work on my disso, grrr damn thing.

Not until this term while I've been making a conscious effort to. Put on 8 pounds so far, and still going strong.:)

definitely put on about 2 stone since i've been at uni. doesn't help much that i play a lot of games, eat crap and drink a brewery's' full of beer a week

The drinking has caused significant gains in fat on me I'm sure, however my diet is about the same/improving (although I live at home). Although I spend a lot of time in the gym working it off too, so I've gained a little muscle overall with about the same % fat. The drinking certainly hampers progress though.

I lost about 3 stones during the first two years of uni then put on a stone over the next year. Seem to have levelled out now though. Was well overweight at around 16 stone when I came to uni though so wouldn't have taken much to lose some.

I think the fact that at uni I lived on the top of a hill that took 20min of steep walking was the only thing that kept me in shape!

On a serious note, one thing I used to do was never leave the house during the day with change, (just kept my card with me), since that then ruled out being lazy and getting the bus! Two good brisk walks a day will keep you in shape if you're not eating utter crap the whole time.

i lost over a stone in the first month s or something ridiculous. my trousers/jeans where hanging off. mainly because i was usually too drunk to eat , too lazy/hungover to cook , to lazy/hungover to find a takeaway. after that i put it all back on though. and then some...

Well I ended up being the fittest I have ever been in my first year. Uni was 3 miles each way (up some massive hills). You could get a bus but the queue was huuuuge. Another factor was getting back to the halls with their catering. Quite often I would get back, take one look at the slop they were serving and think "salad & coleslaw it is today then". The kitchen did start moaning that there were too many of us having salad :D

lot of misconception about alcohol and weight gain.

myth. alcohol makes you fat

not true

alcohol contains 'empty calories' which means there is no nutritional gain from alcohol and it cannot be oxidised ( turned into energy the body can use ) so your body has to burn it first before carb's fat or protein as it cant be stored.

so alcohol cannot be stored into fat which is stored energy.

what it does do though is halt the body in burning off other energies it can use like carb's fat and protein.

By your own logic then, it DOES make you fat, it just does so indirectly...
