The Passat of Love

Here's a pic of my car aswell. I just wanted to show it off.

Though I couldn't be bothered to put any real effort into it and I'm only using an EOS 30D which isn't very good at taking photos to be honest. It's better used as a doorstop.

I dont wish to cause any harm to Fox. It wouldnt be overly hard nor expensive to find and visit him at his home address if I did, rather than randomly doing it on the side of the road. I dont know why people think im a thug ? Theres currently no one in my life i wish to cause any harm to, at all.

I can't see the car in the photos, can someone point it out to me please?

It's the one that looks a bit like yours.

OP - if your car had been a Bimmer, I can guarantee that you would have gotten plenty of 'looks ok, but try and get a better picture' rather than arrogant bile about 'you're pretty gay at taking photos huh' and 'man your car is boring'. For some reason these Bimmer drivers often think that their cars are hugely fascinating compared to a 'boring old Passat', whereas when you sit in and drive one (let alone an 02 plate) they're pretty much just like any other mass-produced German car. The self-belief is commendable yet bemusing.

I've yet to hear a good reason from a BMW driver as to why, for example, an Audi A4 is so much more boring than a BMW 3 series as they so often claim. 'It just is' or 'because Clarkson says so' seems to be the closest that they get.

I'm convinced you live in some sort of weird fantasy world or browse a different internet to everyone else.

Seriously, what on earth are you talking about? I see loads of people criticising the photo, some drive Mondeos, others Passats

I also cannot remember the last time somebody cited 'Because Clarkson said' as a reason why a BMW is better than something. Probably because Clarkson hates BMW's.

Of course, Clarkson loves BMWs (which is probably one of the reasons that I'm suspicious of them). No doubt I will own one at one point in my life, I'm sure they're great. I just don't get why a Passat or an Audi is boring, yet a BMW is the ultimate driving machine. Maybe I never will.

The photo is obviously dire, but it's rG-tom's snide little remark 'it blends into the photos like the passat blends into the dull stream of rubbish cars on todays roads' that has me fascinated as to why he believes that his 02 Bimmer is not just another one of those cars, just cause he has a nack with the camera.

So only Tom says it's a boring car yet you automatically assume that everything thinks that? More specifically BMW drivers.

And believe it or not, a 330i is better than a (diesel?) Passhat.

No, Clarkson has an inherent dislike of BMW's and you can tell he isnt happy when he's forced to admit he's just driven one thats good. They are not his cup of tea.

Generally speaking a BMW is designed with the driver in mind - be it the centre console aimed at the driver, the FR drivetrain, weight distrubution, etc etc. The Passat on the other hand isn't a drivers car - this is no criticism, it isnt meant to be. It serves a different market, and as a result of this its compromise as a result. To an enthusiast then, a BMW offers much that a Passat doesnt - infact arguably the only similarlity is that they are cars from Germany.

Quite why we are discussing this is in this thread I've no idea - I honestly think you've picked up the wrong end of the stick and run with it.

I beleive his comment is made more as a professional photography snob rather than a BMW driver, but that aside a BMW 330i is a different car to a Passat Diesel and I find it hard to understand why you think they are the same thing.

One is an economical workhorse the other is a genuine Sport Saloon with considerably more performance, one of the worlds great six cylinder engines, a brilliant chassis and a driver focused setup. One is the choice of the enthusiast (And, tragically, the choice of the badge snob, though these tend to be found in 318i's) and the other is a car aimed at Mr Average, something which is reflected in its economy bias - being of course £10,000 cheaper new and 15mpg better on the combined cycle.

Thing is rg-tom didn't compare the Passat to his BMW. Why would he? They are different. He just said a Passat is dull - which is a valid opinion.

If a Ferrari driver posts that a Fiesta is rubbish is that because it isnt a Ferrari? No. So the same doesnt apply in this case, either.

i couldnt stomach buying a beemer, and even i would have to agree that a 330 would be better than the passat.

So he just had to slip in how boring Passats are because he is a photo snob?! That's not the only snob he is. I don't think you believe that at all.

I didn't say it wasn't, MrLOL. I'm just saying that I don't understand how one is incredibly boring and the other is incredibly exciting, when for 99% of the time they're very similar indeed.

It's a petrol, MrLOL. And what excites me about motoring is not buying a tacky chav mobile that I couldn't afford to maintain, yet weirdly replacing it with another time bomb money pit. Maybe your Mrs. will let you keep this one ;).
