I am ordering a Honda Civic Si 1.8 VTEC today (negged a £2100 discount). Of course one of the options is to Supaguard or not to Supaguard?

What are peoples opinions? A lot of places state it is a con, costs maybe £10 - £50 for the product and the rest is lining the salesman pocket... and on top of that it is no better than a good quality wax?

(please keep opinions about car choice, financial decisions etc... to yourself... just a Supaguard thread... thanks :)).

Is supaguard on the paint or itnerior?

I think the general consensus over deal applied treatements is avoid and get a proper detailer if you are that bothered...

You could apply it yourself. No guarantee that the dealer won't **** it up or do a poor job.

We use Lifeshine but its very similar to Supaguard. True, a lot of the money you pay goes to the salesman.

They'll do the 'treatment' on the exterior and interior and you get a bag of various cleaning sprays / foams / waxes. Try and negotiate a discount on it. The products themselves aren't that expensive, maybe £20 to the dealer but then they have to pay someone to apply it which takes about an hour if you do it properly. Most places charge around £200 for it but there's a big margin in that. Either buy the kit and do it yourself or shoot for a price from the dealer of £75ish, doubt you'll get it loads cheaper.

Ok well that is pretty conclusive :) Thanks guys.

Any recommendations for DIY? I still got loads of Megs products sitting around.

Just keep the car clean of dirt and bird **** where possible then use a decent wax as often as you can be bothered to do it... 3 times a week if you're the 5 series owner who lives down the road from me, though to be fair he only does it that much in the summer.

I've sold this for 7 years, I no longer sell cars for a motor dealer and I still believe that this is an excellent product!

It costs the dealer £32.50 for a standard kit or £100 for a premium kit.

So if you can get it for a good price or for free it's definately worth having and will keep it cleaner and easier to clean.

The dealer would be well advised to visit eBay and buy the basic kit for £13 inc p&p then.

Supaguard and the other similar products are almost pure profit for dealers, which is why they push these treatments so hard.

my gf, being a girl didnt bother washing her car for the best part of a year, it came with a supercrap treatment. the roof was stained with dirt that had to be clayed off

treat yourself to a new car detail from one of the local detailers.

being new it will be cheaper than a normal detail, and its much easier to keep a new car looking nice if its perfect to start off with.

Have a look over on detailing world

and find one thats local. Will be about the same price as the supaguard treatment, but for that they'll get the car immaculate the paintwork like glass as opposed to just lobbing some very cheap sealant on the car.

Great product, but overpriced if bought with a car. Kit alone sells out for £80, iirc it's often around £300 bought pre-aplied to a car but all involved- salesman and usually valeter get a cut, with the majority going to the salesman (remember comission is everything to them!)

I bought a pack of it on an online auction site for around £20. The proper one, with the sponge you pierce. Did one of my old cars with it as its red and i spent a lot of time working in a pub by the sea.

Sold car 4 years ago, saw it the other day and it looked exactly the same condition paint wise, even though rest of it was trashed.

Seemed to work. Havent bothered on any other cars.

Think a valeter has nicked a few boxes and selling them for buttons!
