TV Licence rip off...

If I had the option where I could get rid of the BBC and avoid the License fee I would.

Its because of that and many others that you have to pay for it. Ow wait, I watch match of the day each week... I guess match of the day costs me £145 a year hmmmmmm

A tenner a month is nothing for a household. eve on your own. I think it is worh it for the BBC. Worry about your 150 quid council tax bill tbh.

Thats the point of the thread I suppose, you think its worth the £10 a month but many don't agree..

Nothing we can do about it mind apart from moan.

It isn't really about just using it though is it, without the BBC it wouldn't supprise me if our media decended into something worse than Fox News. The BBC arn't perfect but it does provide something.

It is when you're living alone, I dont want to dish out a tenner a month for what... whats even on BBC?
MOTD - Its on iplayer for free anyway..

I guess Family Guy is on BBC3 too..

Why doesnt the government force everyone to pay £10 a month to charity too, after all, its only a tenner...

How about we're given the choice.

Theres so much crap on the BBC, I would feel seen off if I was still paying for it.

Look at whats on BBC tonight.. Its a good night for BBC as far as im concerned, Legally Blonde & Air Force One are on... problem is these films have been on TV loads before. Family Guy is on later, but im imagine theres another channel thats ahead of BBC with these anyway.
I cant believe they'v got a Danny Dyer documentary on, haaahaaa... what a joke.

No one forces you to pay the license.
You can't watch iPlayer unless you are in the UK, it is not free for foreigners!

The license is used for various things, funding BBC channels is only part of it.
Ever used the website for news?
Ever used the weather forecasts?
Ever listened to the radio?
Watched ITV or Channel 4?

The BBC doesnt fund weather forecasts.
£10 for a news website is a bit OTT.
How much do ITV/C4 even get it?

This debate is as pointless as the piracy debates we get on here all the time certain people don't like paying for stuff it's as simple as that.

So, people are happy to pay £60 A MONTH for five million **** cnannels with advertising (Sky etc) yet moan about £145 A YEAR for a license....

I see!

well i guess they have chosen to pay the £60 (like me) being forced to subscribe to bbc is unfair for those who just want itv i guess, personally i think it good value at £140 as its decent quality coverage and you get radio and website too.

I would have a Tv licence if I could get more than 4 fuzzy channels.

So I don't have one but then the arial isn't even plugged in so I think this is ok.

are you sure, . if you have a TV and aerial the means are there and they will prosecute if you don't pay

even if you have a computer only, they say you should be paying because you have the means (TV card)

i seriously didnt want to pay this but just wanted to relax about it as i was getting red letters each month. theres no doubt they will call eventually and a £1000 fine is not what i need

has no one ever had or heard of License officialls calling at doors or taking people to court? it must happen otherwise why does anyone pay

I've never quite understood what powers these guys have. Providing you don't live on the ground floor, can't you just tell them you have no tv? If they challenge you further just tell them to get lost.

Maybe because they aren't ******? Seriously if you only pay for something because you are worried about being caught you have a bit of a ***** attitude.

From the TV Licensing website:

The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and DVD/VHS recorders.

It then goes on to say:

You don't need a licence if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch programmes on your computer after they have been shown on TV. If this is the case, please let us know, as this helps us to keep our database up to date and means you won't receive the standard letters we send to unlicensed addresses.

Surely it should be on pro-rata basis?

It always makes me laugh how people rant about the T.V. licensing. BBC show some decent programs with no adverts. Let's face it, we all watch BBC at some point during the week. I know i do, more than I watch Sky which is only usefull for Movies and Sport.

Conversely, Sky seem to charge the earth for a load of carp basically. Most of their products are imported from the accross the pond and add insult by advertising. Yet some how that's acceptable. Beyond me.

Advertising that they could make some money from and cover their costs would be a good thing. So many local radio stations have been swallowed up by bigger groups as they didn't make enough money that there's now very little properly local radio left.

Very little local radio left?

There's plenty of local radio stations about, and unlike the crappy independent stations they don't take the same feed for their programmes and play the same stuff as each other at exactly the same time.

I'd much rather listen to any of the stations listed above than any of the clone commercial stations. BBC local radio still has a personality associated with the local areas and isn't just shouty tat.

Oh and of course. No adverts.
