hi, for my upcomming new build im looking to make it as quiet as can be and i was wondering what cases rate as the best for noise dampening.
im looking to spend around £80-£90 and have been looking at the antec 902, is this a good choise in this price bracket?

thanks

Any case will do really, just make sure it has no fans by either passive watercooling or lots of passive heatsinks like the Zalman silent series cases.

Have you considered the recently reduced in price Antec P183? It's a lot of case for less than £100, and they don't come much quieter with the right fans. The vibrational dampening and thick construction make sure of that.

Those antecs are dodgy i heard that the front keeps snapping off and stuff :\, i had an antec 900 it was way too loud/dusty/cheap

Keeps snapping off? Surely it only happens once? Anyway, I've got a very similar model and had no such issues. In fact, the door is a lot more sturdy than a lot of cases I've worked with. Antec's warranty service is also highly regarded should you have issues.

The P18x series is nothing like the 900 btw. Much, much better quality and they come with fan filters to avoid the dust. As I said before, they are extremely quiet cases too, and without the top hard drive rack (not needed unless you have 4+ HDDs), you can fit any gfx card in there and mount a 120mm fan to provide cool air directly to it.

Just some food for thought, your question was about quiet cases!

thanks, just having a look atm.

seems theres a few complaints about the fans being not as quiet as they could be so id have to price up for changing those as well, but looks good so far

yea i like the fractal although i am considering going for an htpc style such as lian li v351s or antec remote max, not sure they would be silent though. best all round choice is the fractal r2

A case is simply a metal box. How can it make noise?

Usually from hdd's or over the top speedy fans or faulty fans or when a cd is being read and can create an annoying resonance of vibrations going through the entire case and is pretty common with thin sheet metal cases, which is where either thicker metal or accoustic dampening material or both come in to play to deaden annoying vibrations.

i think he knew that realy :p

i like the design of the fractal but its a bit deeper than i want, is there anything similar that also holds 8 hdds but preferably less than 50cm deep?
