Hiding a house...

Us Council planners are there to uphold the planning law and not be popular....

Borich

In the same way traffic wardens do their jobs?

What possible objections could they have other than he didn't ask permission to build on his own land? I mean, thats the issue here isn't it. Not that its not been built properly or whatever, its just spiteful bureaucracy and the desire to punish him for not abiding by the rules and using a totally draconian way of enforcing it.

Its designed to stop anything and everything being built. If he painted it bright pink or something, would you still allow it? There has to be limits to protect the area.

Except its perfectly ok to paint an existing house pink and you don't need planning permission to paint . . . .

It does look good, however.

no one complained about it for four years though... a castle sized pile of hay bails is surely uglier than that house/castle

It is interesting reading some of your views on this. I'm sure at least one of the above posters went on and on in another thread about personal responsibility regarding bank charges but when it comes to another area of the law it's a case of "well it's not harming anyone". ;)

Law has no fundamental meaning anyways, it is written by mortal human beings in order to controll other mortal human beings.

He should fight for it as much as he values his own freedom.

The only problem I see with this case is that the builder did not bribe his local planning department enough and cried to the courts.

IF you won't a monstrosity built you really need to get advise on how to bribe local planners. It's not rocket science.

Surely planners have reasons to refuse applications:confused:

The reason is usually that the inspector is a complete ****hole.

Round here we get planning refused for not using wooden window frames when all the neighbours use PVC. And my personal favourite, historic buildings must use Welsh slate. This is the Lake District, a slate producing area, and we can't use Cumbrian slate.

Oh my word, who on earth makes these ridiculous rules, unbelievable seriously, you have to use a certain type of slate on your own property !, this country has it's priorities so mixed up at times.

it's pretty disgusting he found a loop hole and used it. Courts don't like the fact he used a loop hole and the entire case is pinned on tarpaulin being a permanent structure, which it clearly is not in any way, shape or form.
Or as I read it, from that one article. But things are usually only half reported.

He should just claim that he is king of the gypo's and that its his gypo castle. They wouldnt bother him again then. They seem to build whatever they want where they want.

No one else read the title as hiding a horse?

That's absolutely disgusting to be honest.

By defination all development in the Green Belt is harmful. Therefore building a house in the Green Belt is not acceptable. Everyone else has to apply for a new dwelling, so why should he exploit a loophole.

And what's worrying is, like all planners, he believes he's actually providing the country with a useful service, rather than a massive economic and social drag effect that makes life harder for everyone...
